The Upper Lock looking across the turning basin. The blacksmith shop is on the left. The Rideau Canal is celebrating it's 175th anniversary this year.

Sky on pic 1 is great! Like the swathes of blue, interspersed with brown...
Number 2 is okay. Its a bit... uninteresting... Great exposure though considering the dark foreground.

#1 is great. Funny how there isn't any snow at ALL right now... just doens't seem right! Great colours in the sky. #2 is a neat image too. The foreground detail is great but the house just doesn't do anything for me.

Thanks for the comments Erik, much appreciated.
The defensible lock masters house sites on the highest point of land on the site. The canal was built for military purposes. In 1832, immediately after the completion of the canal there would not be any trees on the site. Military personnel would be manning the site and operating the locks. From the this house, with it's gun slots they would have a clear view and if necessary shot of/at anyone approaching the site. I took this shot from this angle to emphasis this. These buildings are purely utilitarian and are rather spartan in their appearance.
Thanks for viewing.
