I currently have a Canon 17-40 L & 70-200 L. I am very happy with the quality build and performance. My question: Is the Sigma Telephoto 300mm f/4.0 APO Macro Autofocus Lens going to be comperable in build and overall performance? Also what does Sigma call their IS? Ian, feel free to jump right in with a picture of Jessie.

For the better Sigma telephoto lenses you want to look for two things.
1. The "EX" seal of approvel :) EX is Sigma's "exceptional" line. There idea of L
2. HSM = Hyper Sonic Motor.. Sigma's USM... HSM does make a huge difference in both AF speed and noise.
Sigma's "IS" is "OS" (optical stabilization) currently only one lens has it,. the 80-400mm "OS" EX... bt oddly this lens is lacking HSM which has turned me off of it... :(
I "Think" that the 300mm f/4 is one of Sigma's older designs.. not quite as great a perfromer as amny if there newer stuff... it is no longer listed on the Sigma lens chart,. and thus I believe it has been discontinued..

...and I would be willing to bet it will not function on a 10D/DRebel without being "re-chipped"
:( Sorry I couldn't be more enthusiastic about this one.
