Do I need a release or anything else signed to use someone picture on my website to show examples of my work? Even if legally I can do most of you get something signed as a curtisy?

If it's editorial I don't bother getting a release but all my other work I have a release on file. Better to be safe than sorry. The State of Nevada requires a sign letter of release by law.

I'm not sure if you legally need one or not, but just to save all the hassles of do I or don't I, I have one built in to my contract. Everyone who signs a contract for my services gives me permission to use their photos for display on web, studio display, etc. So far, no one has requested that I not use theirs.

I'm not lawyer but my .02 from shooting with a college newspaper and working as an assistiant in pro studios. It depends on where the photograph was taken; in the studio, in a home, at a wedding (anywhere or anything that is considered a privet event) yes you need a release because there is a reasonable expectation of privacy. At a public event or in a public place ie on the steet, at a street fair, protests/demonstrations etc. not so much. Find out where to look up laws on the web for your state and do a search for "Public domain" that is the legal term for the images that do not need a release.

I got everyone this year with the MFA and Silver Foxes to sign a release form!! It worked out great!! Saved me lots of time. I didn't have to contact anyone and ask permission before posting photos. I only had 2 out of about 500 kids that htier parents wouldn't allow to be posted on a site.

Does anyone have an example of such a form that they could send me?

As a rule, I always require a model to sign my Models Release. You are the creator of the images, why shouldn't you have the right to post the images on your site? If you're selling Stock Images, then you need to make arrangements before submitting them.
