hi

i have a D30 is it really worth trading up to the new D60 if i have the cash?

as i am quite satified with D30 but i always seem to move with times, is this a time for exception?

please give me feedback

I think if you search the topic, you'll find enough feedback to feed an army!

Hi gazmon,

My personal opinion is now that D60 is a very attractive piece of equipment with nice features. If you don't have a D30 (you have G1, G2, Pro90 and want to go SLR) go for it.

If you have now a D30 it's better to spend the money on some nice lenses or save them IF you don't have real use for bigger resolution (I'd trade more resolution to more sensitivity, weatherproof and better AF any day).

Personally I can't understand why D30 owners rush to buy D60's like crazy. It really does not offer _anything_ new to D30 as a camera - it has faster computer and smaller pixels, that's it. What I struggle with most of the time is not resolution (one of my D30 photos was on 2002 Frankfurt Musikmesse as 1.5m high posters and the quality looked great), or operation speed: I struggle with getting high enough shutter speeds, I struggle with viewfinder (not full coverage, not changeable to what you may like to use), and I struggle with focusing performance and high ISO noise.

I'm waiting for 1D prices to come down or new models to be announced. 1D has features I'd pay for if I had the bucks. If Canon has a new version of 1D coming (the first generation has always some small flaws here and there) it will be very interesting indeed.

This is my personal view - and if I could afford it I'd buy all the cameras! :)

Operative line: "if I have the cash".

I just went from a D30 to a D60 and I am *more* impressed with the D60 than I thought I would be.

IMHO, the color rendition from the D60 is--well I don't want to overstate it but-- to me it looks *much* better.
It's just "right". With the D30 I always had to do considerable post processing. (Pekka's 342 was indispensable!)

Now, with the D 60: convert, do an occasional tweak with levels or curves, ICorrect Pro, a touch of USM or Ultra-Sharpen Pro and WOW!

PS: I want Pekka to get the D60--now. I know a great action would be forthcoming that would make this new addition even better.
