Canon and Nikon's Kit lens 18-55mm

I had noticed that Canon and Nikon's Kit lens 18-55 is very similar but which is better?
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM
Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED DX Nikkor Lens

What are the chances that these are made by the same maker? Who would the maker be?

Same maker? I think not.

I would imagine the Canon is made by Canon and the Nikon is made by Nikon.

From what I hear as well, Nikon's kit lens is pretty damn good.

Nikon's 18-70 kit lens is supposed to be wonderful, and there are professionals who use that as their primary lens.

Their 18-55 kit lens is not as good, but for whatever reason it's not quite as maligned as Canon's.

I dont think they are from the same maker. For some reason while testing a d80 at bestbuy, the manual focus felt slightly better than the canon kit lens. Nikon felt "tighter" while canons was a bit "wobbly".

Well, one is made by Canon and the other by Nikon.

Canon Kit lenses are manufactured in Taiwan. Don't know about Nikon.

I believe nikon's kit lenses cost a bit more than Canon's - 2 to 3 times more so you get what you pay for. Hardly a "kit" lens if it is expensive.

It seems Pentax 18-55 kit is better than both.
I know for sure Canon 18-55 kit lens is evil. You simply loose anything more than 6Mpixels on it, apart from other junk results. Pentax's seems to be only slower than anything good.

Nikons kit lenses are awesome. I used mine for a few months and I don't notice any difference in my better lenses now that I have them besides speed.
