UV on my DSLR lenses; none on the A620 since I don't tend to walk around with it open.

I leave a UV on mine all the time...which is a good thing because someone got some nasty finger prints on my UV lens the other day =\

I always leave the adapter and a CIR Polarizing filter on my S3. I dont trust the lens cap that comes with it and I would much rather break a filter then the lens (and the whole camera for that matter). A good Idea also is to leave a lens hood on as well. Just an additional buffer between the lens and the crazy messed up world around you.

I have the polarizing filter on my S2 most of the time, but not always. But like Thomas, I do leave the filter adapter and hood on all the time for a little added safty. Of course, one must remember to fold back or remove the hood if shooting with the built in flash, or it will sho-nuf cast a shadow of the hood!

I wouldn't leave a polarising filter on all the time - it robs you of about 1 1/3 stops of light, which is a significant loss. I only fit a polariser when I need one.

I don't have the S3, but for 15 months now I have had the S2 which is very similar camera, and I love it. You're right, they are amazing cameras. Not that it has anything to do with the picture quality, but I sure wish the S2 was gun metal gray or black like your S3, instead of mickey mouse SILVER!

KoiBoy - the really great thing is that all the manual control you want is available, too, so you can experiment with P mode, then head to Av and M where appropriate. Auto will get you good results much of the time, but sometimes you can get better results by taking control yourself.

I've had my S3 since just before Christmas and I love it! I have a Rebel 2000 35mm that I keep a UV filter on all the time. I still have to get the adapter/hood set so that I can do the same with my S3, but that's what I'm going to do, keep the adapter and UV filter on all the time.

silver isn't that bad, just know that if you ever misplace your camera, its easier to find then a black one

ya, i'm in the process of getting the uv filter and adapter, but will leave the uv on for sure as a protection for the lens.
thanks everyone!

I leave my UV on my S2 all the time. I tend to use it more than the polarizer.

There's many opinions on this, but personally, I don't want that extra piece of glass in front of my lens unless it's doing something to improve my picture. Being that I don't work for National Geographic or anything else that puts my lens at great risk, I'm not likely to damage it from everyday use. At least I haven't in the past 35 or so years. Now after all this bragging, I will probably break it before the day's gone! :(
