I'm going to a PBR(bull-riding) event at the Honda Center a.k.a. Pond of Aneheim next month. Their policy says:
No video, audio or cameras with professional lenses (maximum 6 inches). The camera policy is subject to change depending on each show's individual policy.
Does anybody have experience going to events here and getting in with your camera? I'm thinking I'll only need my Sigma 70-300mm since the my kit lens and 50mm fixed won't be enough zoom. When not zoomed I figure my sigma is roughly 6 inches. Will the people at the gate really whip out a ruler on me or what? Thanks ya'll.

Been there...done that and the answer is...yes they will!
This is where the Canon 70-300 DO IS comes in very handy...
(of course then there's the light issue...)

You can always try to argue that "maximum 6 inches" means in diameter. Then 300/2.8 would also fit into this rule

So were you able to get in with your camera? Is the Canon 70-300 IS any smaller than the Sigma 70-300?

I'd also try and take in a monopod, as your 70-300 is probabll going to struggle with the lighting. Besides, what's the worse that can happen? They say no, and you make a quick trip back to the car.

So they just eyeballed the 70-300 and determinted it was too big? Did they say anything about it being a DSLR? I might call them because it says the photography policy also depends on the event. What even were you at? Thanks

It's all about lens size. They had a metal rod in their pocket they used to measure..."can't be longer than this!" Call them...
