This is not a happy story. I've ended up ruining 300 JPG shots from today, some of them decent. Yup, left the MkIIN WB setting on "Incandescent" from last night's shooting. I had several close calls of that nature with the 20D, however, caught the inappropriate setting well in time because the WB icon is placed on the main operational display, near the shutter.
Either way, this SNAFU only fortifies my long held low opinion of the 1 Series camera user interface.
Anyone's got ideas how I could restore WB on these JPGs in a relatively simple way ?

Hi PetKal,
I think this is sorta O.K.
Go to Levels ( usually a similar dialogue box in most image editors ) then pick the White colour sampling 'eye dropper' then click on a part of the image that should be White then Hey Presto! then a little bit play around with Hue & Sat.
Hope this helps.
Regards Alan.

Thank you Alan, that looks better.
I have tried it and it restores the colours to some extent.
So does colour cast removal and colour replacement features.

I may be wrong but I think the images lack the proper information in them to restore completely. Kind of like having a black and white photo and trying to color it. It can be done but it is artificial. Raw enables you to adjust wb while jpg does not except in the artificial PS ways. By not shooting raw you are always letting the camera pick a wb instead of letting the photographer do it. I really hate awb and even the presets might not be what you want.

Yes, I also think the fine grain quality of the image is gone .

WB tweaks RGB channels , you clipped the hell out of blue so that info is history.

RAW is the answer, but Alan's recovery effort is excellent in the circumstances.

I think you all are missing the obvious answer. Sharpy was very close, but not correct. The way you fix this is pack the MKIIN up in a box and ship it directly to me. This will avoid this terrible accident from every happening to you again. I promise to let it never hurt your images again.
I'll pay for shipping :)

Thank you Reyno, Village Schlock and Eric.
Alas, my photography must stay "pure", i.e., no RAW, no postprocessing, no gizmos of any sort, just an old cluck and a camera/lens against the avian world.;)
Eric, I just took a look at your new images with the 300 f/2.8.....the lens seems to be working great for you, the 600mm IQ is very nice.
