These photos were taken last October in the Mojave Desert in California, Nevada, and Utah. There's a special emphasis on California's stretch of old Route 66.

Very nice.
......and I think you just convinced me what camera I want for my next P&S. How do you like that Sony?

Thanks, Sean. I love the Sony R1, but I don't really consider it a P&S. Its more like a fixed-lens DSLR, in my opinion. Image quality is fantastic, and its features are well thought out. I recommend it highly - get one before they're gone!

I want one............yea sorry about saying it was a P&S, I wasn't quite sure what it was, I've never seen one till your post. Is there any shutter lag, or servo AF ?

Nice gallery.
I did the Route 66 from Williams, AZ to Kingsman, CA several year ago and really enjoyed it. If I have time I'll do it again.

Yeah, its kind of hard to say exactly what kind of camera it is. It has the sensor, lens, and image quality of a DSLR, and the live-preview characteristic of a P&S. It does have some shutter lag - not as much as a smaller P&S, but certainly more lag than your 1Dmk2. There's no servo AF. The R1 isn't meant for sports or fast action, but if you stay within its "zone", you'll be glad you bought it.

Thanks, 4x4. If I ever get the time, I'd like to drive Route 66 from beginning to end (Chicago to Los Angeles).

I did the Route 66 thing from Winslow, AZ to Santa Monica, CA back in July of last year...took me 4 days, but its a totally amazing trip to take! Too many side trips to count...Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon Caverns, Sedona, Amboy...geez the list goes on and on....
