I have heard from a reliable source that no new 5d replacment is planned for approximately another year or so. The two top end models will have a replacement come out soon... Take advantage of the rebates on the 5d! No other details...

I guess I will be the first to ask... what qualifies your source as "reliable." And just for grins and giggles... did he mention anything about the 1 series?

I am a rep for the manufacturer in a different sector and contacted someone who works in the photography field. I thought I would pass it along as I just purchased the 5d based on this... I don't want to say a lot to protect myself and I didn't want to overextend my welcome by asking him a bunch of questions. It did sound like the 1 series was going to have a changeover though... Likely will be announced at some of the upcoming conferences.

Great news. A new 1D will make the 5D look like a toy, dropping the price of a 5d.

Thx

Canon got no competition for the 5D. So It is tough to predict about it.

Either way the consumer wins.

I am quite sure, even certain your source is wrong and if he knows this is untrue wants you to believe. It is sure, that all sensors will be very soon getting anti-dust, which needs a replacement for all models except 400D. The 5D with a dust removal will be much sexier than that without. This is not only confirmed by one of my relationships working with Canon but also by what Canon declared at 400D launch, that all Digital EOS will get soon this anti-dust feature.

When Denis Regie puts his gear up for sale, it's a pretty good indication something is coming out. Right now he's selling two 1D MarkII N and a 16-35 f/2.8 on another forum.

OK, so who is Denis Regie?

Here you go (see web-links below) ...he's out of Atlanta and I went to hear some presentations he was doing around 1999-2000. At the time, he was converting from film to digital. Nice guy...very personable...great photographer.

Thanks, Bob. His work looks very nice.

I like the web site as well, though I'm awefully glad I'm on broadband. A dialup connection would not work well there.
