Here's a different crop - much more abstracted. I'm not decided which one has more power to provoke the feeling of seeing tears.

Thanks! What makes you prefer the first one, if I may ask?

I think the inclusion of a living thing above the tears helps with the message you are trying to convey.

I think a shot like this, but with some nice moss covering the top of the planter would be very nice as well. I mention this because the space between the tree and "tears" is a TINY bit distracting. Not distracting is a normal sense of the word really.....but as far as the whole "tears" theme goes...ya know? It's really not that big of a deal at all...I just felt like pointing it out :)

my first thought was blood not tears.

It does sort of look thick like blood....interesting

Hmmm. Ok, this would be an argument to not go too abstract... the stone was dark, and the wet water streaks now look a bit too dark... But somehow the tears might also symbolize heart blood... Anyway - thanks for your thoughts.

nice image. The "tears" also reminds me of the roots of the plant

Thanks. Yes, this analogy is visible here.

Normally I would prefer the more abstracted framing but in this case I prefer the 1st image, I like the inclusion of the plant, it gives the viewer something more to look at, and the connection of "tears" from a living thing.

Brad, thanks. Good thinking! The plant might introduce the "living" aspect indeed.

somehow I missed this one...

I also prefer the first one. Another crop to consider would be cropping off the entire left 1/2 of the image, leaving the right side of the plant (the fuller, more alive part) and pot.

Hmmm. Interersting idea, thank you! I will have a look and see how your version would fit in the book.
