Can I also assume I rip out my existing (basic) card and insert the DVI card in its place

Three recomendations;

Matrox,
Matrox,
....and Matrox :)

Really,. if PS is the important thing,. there is no card better suited. They have Cards with Dual DVI and even triple DVI output. :mrgreen:

P.S.,. I am going to move this thread into Post Processing :)

Can I offer a fourth recommendation?

Er, Matrox. :)

As CDS says, if the emphasis is on PS work then there is no other choice.

Cheers

Any particular models (ie millenuim 550 or parhelia)

You would probably get equally good results from even earlier models,. like the G400 and G450.. the biggest difference is the 3D gaming support and how many monitors they drive..

So which ever is more affordable :)

I have some rather old G400s at only 16MB and they handle Photoshop better than my 128MB G-Force ti4600 :shock:

No kidding.

The G550 for $125.00 looks good,. or the G400 MAX refurbished for about $60.00 if you don't need state of the art,. the 550 would be more likely to remain compatible with newr OS and "Direct X" stuff in the future though...

I have many of the NVidia Quadro cards, the Quadro 2 and 4's, Pros and non Pros. All are OK for graphics work, but colour accuracy between these cards (which are not cheap) and the Matrox cards is night and day, especially when running with a TFT via DVI.

Get Matrox for PS work, Nvidia/ATI stormers for games/3D etc.

IMHO, of course.
