What no mailbox? If I were a Chickadee I would want a porch. Looks great, hope you can capture many a Chickadee.

I'm no good with wood. It took me 3 1/2 hours to make this simple little box!
I could settle with Tree Swallows as long as it gets used come spring.

Looks like it needs a perch?

Wow nicely made, you even beveled the edges off. Do they not need a little perch to land on?

It's a beauty!! It's more likely for Bluebirds or Wrens. Chickadees don't nest in cavities like this.

I've heard that you should not use a perch because it helps predators get inside.

Good Luck with it!

Exactly why there's no perch.

I built one of these about 10 years ago and tree swallows moved in right away! I since moved to a new location and further from water so I don't know about swallows this year. From what I read, the hole is only 1 1/8 inch and they are the two species that it would attract. Well that and my feeders ;)

I'll keep you up to date WITH photos :D

Very nice! The one I made late spring looks like garbage- probably why it hasn't been used except for dumping...I've heard the same thing about no perch- makes it easy for predators to get in. Someone on this site a while back had posted shots of a snake hanging out of a bird house after it had eaten some residents and shased others away

looks about right for a bluebird wich means you'll get tree swallows.

Nice work, chickadees will nest in a box like this, I had them last spring. Make sure you mount the box on a pole with a predator guard. Check out this site for more information: http//www.sialis.org/ Good luck:)
