I picked up a new Manfrotto monopole today and it had a "flex adapter" on it. I tried my 10d there and it bounced around like crazy! The flex adapter is now gone. Has anyone found a use for this rubber flex guy? I sure didn't feel good having a $2K camera and lens on it!!

Jerry,
You did the right thing by chucking to rubber thingy. Get yourself a good ball head with a quick release plate and you are set. I am currrently using a couple of Manfrotto 486 and love them.
