Do you tell the bride and groom not to look at the camera for the most part or how do you deal with that?

They do not look at the camera anyway. They are busy "getting married".:)

Good answer. I have yet to shoot a wedding so this is all new to me.

There are always two types of people... those who like to look into the camera and those who don't.
The ones who do will keep looking into your camera and giving you a smile even when you're trying to take candids. The other won't look into the camera even when taking a posed formal... unless forced to I guess.
I just leave it up to them and let them do whatever they feel comfortable with.

I actually had a bride who I was in the back of a large church and she would turn her head as I would get the camera aimed to take a shot and she would give me a big smile. It was like her focus was more on her wedding pictures than her wedding. It was kind of funny because she did it thru the wedding and her reception. I have never had a bride do that and it can be unnerving when the guests even realize she is doing it.

Do you mean during the ceremony, or during B&G shots? Most brides will tell me they never even noticed me during the ceremony. If you approach the ceremony in an unobtrusive manner, then they should rarely see you, they'll be so focused on getting married.
If you mean during the B&G shots, then most of the time I do have to give quite a bit of direction.
Do you have a wedding coming up?

No wedding coming up. Just curious.
I was thinking that the way to escape half the brides that picturecrazy is talking about; tell them not to look at you unless directed to do so.

I would say it to them in a way that wouldn't make them feel uncomfortable, because then they'll be trying too hard to not look at the camera.

Well I would not say it quite like like that.
The best thing would be to ask them if they would like most candid pictures. Im sure the answer will be yes most of the time. Thats probably something the bride and groom dont think about. Who knows?

Yeah, when you meet with them they'll usually tell you what style they like...most likely it will be yours because that's why they're meeting with you! ;) lol

Some portraits I want them to look in the camera (often the ones that their parents and grandparents wants) and some are taken as they are not aware of the camera (both candid or arranged to look candid).
