I got my XTi about a month ago and have been pleased. However I think I am either still not quite doing something right or I have found the limitations to my cheaper lenses now.

I have several "cheaper" lenses. The one I shoot with most an older 80-200 4.5-5.6. I had this lens with my film body and never really got the results I wanted then either. But blamed it on the camera or film. I have been trying to learn to shoot ducks in flight, which is hard enough with this lens focusing slow as it does. I do sometimes get some in focus ,I think, but the are just not sharp enough or something and they are missing the mark somehow. Please tell me is my lens or am I missing something or probably both. Thanks

Sorry I realized that may not be a good example since I was using a slower shutter speed playing with the idea of giving motion. But here is another. He come in there and had a band on his foot.

Which focusing mode were you using?

AI Servo on 1 & 3 and AI Focus on 2. DO I need to be on AI Servo all the time? Thanks again!

One more question. I was just looking at the Table of lenses at the top of forum. I do not see my old lens on there. I do see a 80-200 4.5-5.6 II But mine is not a II. Is it even supposed to be campatible? It does focus, just some times having to search and even sometimes locks on and still looks out of focus once downloaded.

most likely your lens but dont use A1FOCUS use A1SERVO and as fast a shutter speed you can get without going above iso400 .
its a very fine line between good and just out of focus most shots end up close but few end up SHARP .
top gear helps up the keeper rate but that cost's a fair bit.

i dont know about your lens
Rob.
