Hi,
I've been researching digital cameras and had finally decided on the Canon PS A80. I've since seen the Ixus i which looks great, so have tried to find some reviews to understand the pros / cons and also to compare to the A80. I can't seem to find any reviews on this model, so I'm hoping to get some feedback from current owners.

I'm nearly cross eyed reading camera specs and it's now all a big blur! So any feedback would be appreciated, especially relating to the major differences between the 2 models, and the performance of the Ixus i. There are plenty of reviews on the A80 and they're all great with only movie mode and minor purple fringing as the standout issues.

This will be my first digital camera! javascript:emoticon('')

Thanks,
M

The names of some Canon models might be different throughout the world - the Ixus i, I believe is called the PowerShot SD10 in the USA - that name might help you better find some reviews.

For example here are some:
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_sd10-review/index.shtml

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/sd10.html

They are both 4Mp digicams - but to me there's where almost any other similarties end - (to me) they are two very different digicams.

The Ixus i/SD10 is a pure point & shoot - extremely compact digicam that lacks even an optical eye-level viewfinder (I would find this UNacceptable - but as always YMMV) and just about everthing is "automatic".

Whereas the A80 has numerous exposure control settings including Manual, Shutter priority, Aperture priority - to allow finer creative exposure control - but the A80 can simply be set on "Auto" and a lot of people do use it that way and quite successfully.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback - helped LOTS. You're right about the comparison - once I could see some reviews it became obvious just how different the 2 cameras are. At first glance the Ixus i looked great and the prices were somewhat similar so I thought it could be a good alternative to the A80. But I'm sticking with my original choice.
Thanks for clearing up the models for me.
