Are there any rules for the use of sticky posts? It seems there are getting to be more and more of these. Some are old and outdated, and some shouldn't even be sticky in the first place.
I can see a time when the entire first page of a forum will be stickies.
Does anybody agree?

Let me know what you think is sticky that shouldn't be sticky?
What gets stickied are threads that we don't want to drop off the front page.. at a quick glance the ones I see all have some form of intrinsic value that may be hard to find whaen they work there way off of the front page..
Most of the stickies are either announcements, FAQ type info (the links thread, and tips thread, how to post a picture) etc...
The reason there are more now?
Simple, before Pekka upgraded the forum itself,. i don't think stickies were easy to implement,. if not impossible.
An occasional house cleaning will certainly be in order,. but seeing as how the "new forum features' are only about a month old, that means the stckies can't be much more than a month old.

Hi CDS,
Here's an example from the EOS Forum - "What is the main camera you shoot with?". I'm NOT trying to get rid of this specific post, but in my opinion, something that sticks to a page should contain information that everyone who opens that page MUST see. Why is this post more important than any other?
Also from the EOS Forum - "All the best links" and "Top tips thread". I'm sure you will disagree, but while these topics are useful, do they really need to be seen each time you open the page from now until forever?
Maybe things that we consider "stickable" should have their own forum (like the top tips and links threads). Thanks for letting me have this little rant. :o
