Hi All,

need to check if anyone faced this issue and if there is any solution to it before I send my 420EX to Canon.

Problem : it can't reach full charge even with fresh batteries... thus I can't use the flash... what's wrong? :? Everything else seems to be working.

Thanks in advance. :)

Why do you say it doesn't reach full charge? The ready light doesn't come on? The flash doesn't stop whining (mine doesn't either even at full charge)?

Flash units have a capacitor inside that may need conditioning after long periods of inactivity. This is manifested usually by long recycle times and decreased output. To see if you can solve the problem yourself, put in fresh batteries, turn the unit on and leave it on for 15 mins. Fire the flash 10-20 times immediately after the unit shows full charge. This is known as "reforming" the capacitor. If this doesn't work, the capacitor may need to be replaced.
If your problem is decreased output and very short recycle times you may have a damaged capacitor or a short. The unit needs servicing.
