Heard so many good things about these two lenses that I decided to buy both.

First - the 50 f1.8 is AMAZING!!! This lens rocks!!! ANd for the price......it just can't be beat!!! I actually like that its plastic (I know, I'm a newbie!!!) cuz its light and etc......... The quality of the pics and the color saturation are just superb. So happy with this purchase.

The 35 f2 on the other hand did not do the same for me. It was light and better built..............but the quality of the images were missing something (It was also more than 100 USD!!!). It was too saturated and the shadow area showed more contrast (???), I don't know if that makes sense............I just noticed more noise from it. Also, the focal length is too close to 50.........Maybe a 28 would probably be a better investment.

Anybody here owns both lenses?? I want to hear some opinions.

Okay..........so I think I'm returning the 35 and keeping the 50.

I prefer the 35mm f2 over the 50mm f1.8. The 35mm is well constructed and, more importantly, will deliver sharp images at any aperture. I know this because I've used it for years and tested its performance in all kinds of situations.

It's also more useful to me with the 300D - it becomes a standard lens at 56mm.

The 50mm (80mm) lens goes a little too long for my liking, but delivers very good results. It's build quality is basic and inferior to the 35mm in every way.

Before you buy into prime lenses (non-zoom) think about the effect regularly changing lenses will have on your camera's image sensor - dust and dirt.

Good luck with your choice.

I have both lenses but I haven't compared them side by side. Well, they are different lenses anyway.

I don't have the problem of 35/2 that you mentioned. In fact, I don't understand your comments on 35/2. IMHO, it shows good contrast. If there is some noise in the photo, I think that it's a camera body or users problem rather than the lenses. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you post the photos taken by the two lenses and explain why you come to your comments?

I have both lenses, and both were bought new in the last 6 months (so they are the current versions). I have used them both, but have not done much comparison. I am in the middle of a project to photograph the production of a play, and I have used both, as well as other lenses. I will see if I can see any differences as I go through them.

Not to get off topic, but what I have noticed in this project is my love for primes. I started switching from the zoom while shooting this project to get the speed of the 35 f2 and the 50 f1.8, but I'm seeing more 'pop' with the primes - and the zoom I'm comparing to is no slouch - it is the 24-70 2.8 'L'. Unfortunately, the most noticeable difference is with the 85 f1.8, which is a little too long for most shots. But this has got me curious. I have to do some more comparing.

Have Fun
