To all you fellow Canucks, how much are duties when you order from BHP?
Will they tag it as a repair item?
Any advice on this?
Thanks.

Zero is you use USPS as your shipper. If you use a courier like fedex etc you may run into brokerage fees.

There is no duty on most photographic equipment, that doesn't mean you won't be charged PST and GST on receipt, sometimes you will sometimes they won't. UPS and FEDEX are fine as long as you aren't using their ground services, if you use ground you'll get big brokerage fees, if you use Express the brokerage fees are included in their shipping cost.

I received a delivery from B&H just before Christmas. Santa was pretty generous this Christmas! :D
UPS collected 6% GST and a ~$30 brokerage fee on delivery. No duty, though. They did accept a credit card for payment...
Correction: They charged PST and GST plus the brokerage fee.

Use UPS Expedited service. It cost a little more, but the brokerage fee is included and the total cost is usually much less. UPS has a tracking service so you can watch the progress of you package on the various stops it makes before it is delivered. Delivery is usually within a few days.
USPS/Canada Post charge a $5 brokerage fee. Sometimes they are reasonably fast, but I have waited as long a 6 weeks and they do not have a tracking service to tell you where your package is.
The is no import duty, but the usual GST/PST/HST will be charged depending on the province you live in.

I've used both USPS and UPS Express. Neither charged me brokerage fees. Next time I order form B&H I'll ship UPS Express just because it's faster getting it across the border and to my door!!! No problems with either otherwise. I did have to play the taxes on both though, UPS took a month to bill me for it though....

Generally use USPS for my purchases from naturescapes. On each, I have been charged PST, GST and a $5 handling fee.

I get Globabl Express Post from USPS when I order from them. It usually takes less then a week, is trackable and it is how I get all my items from the USA.

Recent orders from Sterlingtech and BH where shipped in USPS. no brokerage fees, just both taxes.
Did take a little longer, but there was no rush involved, so I saved big time on the shipping costs, which was more than the taxes.
Even though the studio equipment is not technically photography, they did not charge duties. Flash, umbrella, stands, STE2, monopod and ball head.
If not in a hurry, save the cash charged by the big guys! Unless it is expensive glass or bodies, then the big guys and insurance is a must.

USPS charges 5 bucks "processing" plus tax... sometimes no tax.
UPS - I've only had bad experiences (express included) and have sworn not to use it again.

USPS charges 5 bucks "processing" plus tax... sometimes no tax.Actually that's Canada Customs. They charge $8 for Global Express (from any postal org) and $5 for Air Mail or less. I don't so mind when its for a item declared at $500 or more, but when its $5 tacked onto a item you paid $30 bucks for, its ridiculous.
Canada needs to up its $20 CAD threshold to at least $200 CAD like other nations do. Or is this still the 1930's where $20 is a lot of money?
