My wife and I are kicking around the idea of starting a photo biz, Mainly doing weddings, kids, pets and some aerial photos. Did you make up biz cards, flyer's? Share your story. Also trying to come up with a cool name that's easy to remember. :)

...how bout......................Photo Crazy?oooo or photo FRENZY. one of my friends does this and he just did second shooting for a guy who was about to retire and then just continued on with the old mans business(because he already had alot of contacts).

Hey jason. How much experience do you guys have in photography? That will be key. The best way to start is to get a portfolio down. But you can't do that unless you are already shooting kids, pets, aerials, and weddings. The way to build up the portfolio is to find a local pro who is willing to let you assist him/her and learn as much as you can. Spend at least a couple years learning. Taking nice pictures is a SMALL part of running a successful photo biz!!

As for weddings.... oh man... you gotta REALLY like it to do it. It's the pandora's box of photography. See Tim's faq in the wedding section for a start.

Maybe you should set up a website and send it to all your friends and ask them to send to their friends???

Oh God, not another one.
I promise you (written if required) that the actual "Photography" part will be only about 20% of your "business", the rest is sales and MARKETING.
