well, I got asked to shoot my bosses daughters wedding last weekend. Despite telling him how unqualified I am to shoot it, lets just say it's what I would call "an offer you can't refuse".
To top it off it was both of his daughters getting married!!
So far, he's happy with the results, (thank god..I still have a job)
I just want to say to all the pro wedding photographers out there...I applaud you.
Here's a few shots from the event.

very nice. Can you share with me how to create those style of borders. When I apply a grid in photoshop, I don't know how to get the inner border thin as you have here. feel free to PM if you like. I would appreciate the help.

Very nice shots. DId you dislike it because of the stress of dealing with your boss, or you just don't like wedding photography in general?

I think you did a great job!! Better than my first wedding. What lens did you use for the first shot? It almost looks like a tilt shift lens or lensbaby. Or was that done in photoshop?

Yes. Definately stressful. I brought the stress on myself by not being comfortable/experienced at it. I think Event photographers are like chess players...having to be 7 steps ahead all the time. Of course with experience the stress will be less, but I think I'll stick with taking pics of grass growing. :D

Thanks Toogy. Yes. Was done in Photoshop. Lens was a 17-55 2.8. 20D.

I like those shots alot. very artistic, and romantic images. you definately "can" do it. but being able to do it and liking it are two very different things.

That offer you cant refuse thing... did he pay, or just threaten you? LOL

I can get this type of border by going Image-canvas size-.05 border white, then do it againa and add a 1.0 (relative) black border after that.

not the best explanation, but you will see what i mean.
good luck.

I think they are great, and not even only for your first time. Would love to see more (especially B&G shots). You may want to consider a career change, but at least you still have your job. :)

I think you've done a great job. Actually, I think you have a future in wedding photography should you ever choose to have a crack at it.

Very nicely done, and attractive photographs. If you stick with it I can only imagine you getting even better.

I can certainly understand the stress concept. Even after 30+ years of doing this, I always have a slight "edginess" going into each job, even though I love the work. But that's OK because it keeps me alert and on top of things.

Stress in this type of work gets reduced in time with confidence, experience and age. Remember, it is a "people" business that involves this technique called photography. But it is really more about how you interact with and relate to other individuals, capture their emotions, calm their nerves, put them at ease and make them look good. Don't give up yet - you may find yourself addicted like I did ;) - Stu

I think the three images shown here shows you have a great eye. You should try it again, now without the boss hanging over you. I assume it'll be less stressful actually the next time. Well done! :D

I appreciate all the nice comments from many of you. Makes me feel a bit more at ease. Luckily I had two beautiful brides to shoot, which helps...and of course photoshop. :)

stu, your comments regarding 30+ years and still having that "edginess" when shooting a wedding was enlightening.

The good news is my boss doesn't have anymore daughters to marry off. The bad news is I have a difficult time saying "no".

Thanks again for all the nice comments and hope to learn lots more from you pros.

Thank YOU - it's that sort of thing that keeps us on our toes, keeps us honest, and maintains a fresh outlook on each job. Once complacency and total relaxation sets in... well then maybe it's time to quit. ;)

But in the meantime, you may want to try your hand at some other social events to boost your confidence level - school plays, birthday parties, anniversaries, volunteer organization shoots... there's a whole raft of things you could try your hand at. Best wishes.
