I went to a local (good) pawn shop that specializes in electronics and photo equipment. It is a rather large store and there is always a lot of people shopping there. It really isn't your typical pawn shop. Anyway I went in looking for filters and found a 67mm Hoya multicoated (SHMC model) UV filter. The price was $8.00 used, but mint. But the good part is that I have a friend who works there and he sold it to me for $1... One of the best deals I ever got. They have a ton of filters but nothing else that will fit my lenses, I need 58mm and 67. Acctually I didn't check for 58m, I'll have to go back. I am thinking about buying a ton from them and selling them on ebay, they do have some smaller size B+W brand filters there...Dean

I know what you mean, I had the R72 62mm for my old Olympus E10, I bought for $50. I forgot the company I got it from but I found them by doing a search on the net. I think I typed "infrared filter". Anyway I forgot to mention that I saw this same filter (the Hoya UV) new on ebay between $30 and $47...Dean

I've got tons of great deals at pawnbrokers over the last two years,so much so that i make good pocket money buying there and at occasional auctions then selling on ebay.
Not to mention being able to try and use tons of different cameras and lenses!!

Lucky you. Why don't you put up a link to your auctions in the marketplace forum so we can snag some sweet deals. And maybe you can give us a break on the shipping or something, since we are all Canonites on this forum? :P

I collect early Pentax screw-mounts and K-mounts. I've found a few good deals in pawn shops, mainly in Reno and Las Vegas. The real fun is the negotiating. You can't insult these people, and every once in a while, you find one that has absolutely no idea what things are worth. I once bought a near-perfect Spotmatic II for $35.00.

I was cruising the used stuff at B&H the other day when I saw an EOS body with an APS-sized frame, with a condition of '9', for only $99. I couldn't resist! So I bought it! It IS an APS camera! An EOS IX, and I just couldn't resist for the money. So now I can shoot film and digital with the same perspective - no wishing for a full-frame sensor to be like my film camera- NOT!

Its on the way, I can't wait to get a look at this thing. I was in photo hibernation when it came out, so I don't even remember it.

Malaxos1, Coincidentally, the 62mm IR lens is for my old E10 that I still have. :D

Rick, The EOS IX camera is pretty interesting for APS. If you got the regular IX you'll find it has basically the same functions and features as the Elan II. The IX Lite has a lesser build quality, and has been dumbed down a bit. I think you'll enjoy yours.

They had 3 listings, one IX Lite for $99, one IX for $99, and another IX for $189. Both IXs had a condition of 9, so I asked the guy what the difference was. He verified that it was an IX and it was in great condition, so I said go for $99. I skipped the whole APS thing when it was current, but I figured how bad could this be for $99? It should be a hoot to play with. :) :D
