Hi all, I'm new here. I've been looking for a site where I can get real (its nice to get compliments but not very useful) critiques of my pictures and I'm hoping this is it. Please don't hold back :)
I love the over-the-top architecture of Knebworth House in Hertfordshire (UK) and tried to focus on some of the detail. I'm not sure that this picture works or not. I couldn't get the top of the spire in the foreground into the shot without missing out some of the other details and I thought that the spire in the background might fill in the missing foreground detail mentally. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think.

???

Could you have moved back farther to get the top in? Maybe moved to left to lose smaller spire behind bigger tower? What lens were you using?

Nice shot though

Great subject to shoot but it seems you tried to capture to much of it ,in that shot.

You could focus more on smaller elements of it or... get farther back and get a larger picture but balanced.

Keep shooting the heck out of it .

This subject has great potential, but in this particular shot you are either too close or too far away. Either get in closer to get some real detail of perhaps even just one gargoyle, or back out a little to complete the image. This sort of "mid-section" shot just isn't working for me. But a great subject, that's for sure, and it sounds like you have the opportunity to shoot it again, so go for it! :)

Good luck to you!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to have to go back and see if I can't do a better job.

Cheers.

I agree with previous posters here, the shot has real potential though, there is such a lot going on there architecturally with some beautiful shapes and lines.

I would try getting closer (perhaps from the crosswalk :( ) and fill the frame with a semi circle of the gargoyles. They look really nice, but they are too small to really capture.

Perhaps morning light so that there is less shadow underneath them. Also a heavy overcast day (doom and gloom) may work well for ambience.
