I have had good luck with SimpleTech Pro X but have never tried another brand of card. In your experience, is there a preferred brand?

I've had extreamly good luck with both SanDisk and Lexar. The Sandisk UltraII and Extreme editions are great, and the Lexar ProMedia have gotten rave reviews with friends of mine. Fromt what I've hear the SanDisk Extreme Edition cards are the best money can buy...

I avoid SanDisk. Whether their reputation for cheap, error producing cards is deserved or not, I don't know and I'm not about to experiment with my money. I do have a 128 SanDisk on my PDA and have had no problems.

I use Ridata, Lexar, Transcend, SimpleTech and IBM Micros. They have all operated 100% for me.

I use both the Lexars and the Vikings.

My first experience with memory cards were the SanDisk SD cards for my PDA. Not only were they slow but I had compatibility issues with the card in the PDA so I've developed a predujice against them.

Mostly lexar and that includes basic & pro versions never had a problem.
I do own two simple techs purchased from Sams Club and they have been good also. They wa sjust two small for my needs and I have been lucky to catch the sales on the Lexars lately

My 512MB Ridata and 512MB Transcend cards are both working well, I have never had a problem with either.

My new 52x 2GB Ridata works well in my PDA and I have checked that it works fine in my 10D also.

I have used the Ridata and Transcend cards in my 10D, PDA, USB2 Card reader, X's Drive 2 and X's Drive Pro. All 3 cards perform fine in all devices.

I would happily buy Transcend or Ridata again.

Ever use Viking? I have a Hama 512MB CF card and Jessops 512MB CF card and neither have given me any problem.

No I have not, but I have heard good things about them. I'd buy one if the speed and price were right.

Currently Two "Vikiings" (512 and 1GB) and a Transcend 1GB 30X... the 512MB Viking is the one I managed to drop... it bounced off a rock and landed in the ocean...

It still works :)

No trouble with any fo them

I'd definitely buy a Viking now. ;) If it can survive the CDS drop-in-the-ocean test, then it could surive anything.

Sandisk is a great brand - you just can't buy their cheap stuff. It's great for consumers, but if you want anything reliable you have to get the Extreme's or the Ultra II's. I have 4 Ultra II's and love them!

Has anyone tried Delkin cards? They had a booth setup @ the WPPI & the PMA but I never hear anyone talk about them?

They're a sleeper. Supposed to be decent cards from what I hear.

I have had no problems with SanDisk 3-128s are 4 years old, one went through the washer and dryer (images intact) and still going strong. Now I own Ultra 256s & 512's, still no problems..

I am going to get the Lexar 1GBs when my mark II comes in.

I have had good luck with Kingston cards. Dane Electric was the only terrible card I've had. Many others say negatives about these cards.

I just ordered a couple Lexar Pro-40 1G CF cards. Getting ready for the Mk II. Ultimately I would have switched to 1G cards anyway, even with the10D. It's just a lot more fun to not have to worry about remaining space available on the card when your shooting picture in bursts of 6 or 8 or more.

I just snagged a Ridata 52x 1G. Already had 2 other 1Gs and a 512 for my camera. I'll be getting one more 1G before I start my main shooting season.

DELKIN.. they have a lifetime warranty for what it is worth. I bought one because of that,, Cost more than others. Used the warranty in 2 days.. Bought Delkin Reader, 1st one worked 6 days, second one flaky. I will NOT purchase any more Delkin products.

I have tracked this thread as I want more CF mem. So far the number of users of CF cards are as follows. A (-1) = negative comment,

Snadisk 4 (-1)
Lexar 4
Ridata 3
Transend 2
Simpletec 1
IBM 1
Viking 4
Hama 1
Delkin 2 (-1)
Kingston 1
Dane Elec (-1) (-1)

You are all a great source of advice. Based on what I am hearing here, some of you may want to give SimpleTech a shot. Never one bad experience for me. Lexar is also intriguing. With the Mark II on the way I plan on shooting with two cameras some of the time and will need more cards. Thanks for the help!

I'll add some points for Sandisk. Used (well, it's still in there) a regular Sandisk 512 in my G3 for a year, no problems at all. I have a Sandisk Extreme 1GB in my 10D that works great (admittedly, it's only been two weeks) -- I'm about to order another for my redundant card.

We use a LOT of Sandisk PCMCIA cards at work and they've worked great.

I use both SanDisk and Lexar. First SanDisk I got was bad but was replaced and new one has worked perfectly. No problems with Lexar.

I’ve tried other FC cards, but tend to favor Lexar. The only problem I’ve had with a Lexar CF card occurred when I sustained an “Error “02” when using my 10D. The CF card was an old 1G 16X card. I sent the card back to Lexar for repair, a week later Lexar sent back and a new 1G 40X card.

I agree with belmondo. The Lexas Pro-40 1 Gig is my card of choice. I remember reading in this forum how someone had one break and they called customer service. As I remember, as new one was delivered overnight, no questions asked along with a prepaid box to return the old one. I appreciate service like that and that stuck with me.

I have a Sandisk Ultra II (256) and haven't had any problems with it, although I only shot about 400 pictures with it so far... But its working great for me.

I had two 256mb delkin cards and both produced errors within the first week. I had a 512mb kingmax card before that and although it was painfully slow (not a huge deal on the s30 I had) it went strong for the whole year that I owned it.
Now I use a Transcend 1GB 30x card with my 10d and have had no problems whatsoever (8 months. 12000 images). I also use the card and a cardreader as a portable "harddrive" for office files. Transcend has proven itself for me.

I have a Delkin 512 and never had problems other than a weird one. The card reader can't read it, but the one in the printer can. Go figure.

Also have 2 Transcend 512's. They work great and are very reasonably priced at NewEgg

More than 5K pictures taken with an old 256m lexar in my S45... no problems

About 1k pictures taken with my 512 Sandisk Ultra II in my S45... no problems.

Still waiting for the 10D to put them in!

All mine (apart from that massive one supplied free with the 10D!) are Crucial - no faults at all and appear much cheaper than your average big name

I a Lexar 12x 256MB card and a Lexar 8x 128MB card in my gravel driveway. I went for a few days without really realising they was missing, and then I just happened to notice them amongst the gravel two days later! In that time they had endured rain, frost and being runover several times (they had several dents in them).

They still work as well as the day I bought them!!

Has anyone used or heard anything about the larger Transend CF cards? I've got an S45, so a 2.2gb card is kind of overkill, but the value is great =P

I just saw it on pricewatch.. it's available at newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-160-136&depa=0

If nobody has used it before, maybe I'll test it out and let you know how it goes.

Wow! That is a great deal. The 1GB version is in the top 5 for speed on the 10D (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6111). I was going to pick up another 1GB Sandisk Extreme but maybe I'll get a 2GB card and save some money to boot!

I'm not sure -- the 2.2gb one is Type II, and doesn't say 45X on it, whereas the one that performed well in the review you linked to was Type I and said 45x.. so I'd imagine these are a lot different cards, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a good one

Oops. I misread the Transcend product page (http://www.transcendusa.com/FlashCard/FLSMod.asp?CatID=10). I glanced at it and saw only up to 1GB on the top (didn't notice it was memory stick) and then the 2GB 45x below. If you scroll down they show the Plain Jane 2GB in blue (the color on the Newegg page).

2 x IBM 1 GB Microdrives, 2x Kingston 1 GB CF (one of which may have gone bad), assorted SanDisk in sizes from 40-512 MB (also in use on PDAs), Lexar 12x 256 MB and Simple 512 MB. All perform about the same in my D60 and A80 (well, the Microdrives won't fit in the A80, but . . . ).

I'm using a SanDisk UltraII 512 and am very pleased. Extremely fast, especially since I purchased a cheap USB 2.0 card reader instead of using camera's supplied connector cable.

Maybe we should all put our preferred 'media' in our tagsline with our bodies and lenses?

So far I have two 256MB cards - Transcend and Dane-Elec. Both are working just fine with my 10D, as they did with my old E20 and the Minolta Dimage 7i before that.
