CF Card Err message

How long does a CF Card last? I was out with my daughter this weekend and just finished a couple of images of some geese. Turned off the camera, Moved onto our next location and spotted a male cardinal, went to shoot and got a CF ERR message. So I formatted the card and everything seems to be working fine now. is this normal?

Being solid state, CF cards should last until they are mechanically or electronically damaged some way. Having said that, I have had one Lexar 512MB CF fail on me in the 7 years I've been shooting. It had a Lifetime Warranty so Lexar replaced it after a short troubleshooting session with a guy from Mombai, India. :)

The CF card error does not necessarily spell doom for the card...it could be something as simple as a poor connection. Sometimes just removing and reseating the card can clear things up.
