Hey,
Its been a while since I posted on here. A couple of weeks ago I did a mates wedding, but stupidly forgot to do the ring shots on the day. Not a problem, will do it when I deliver the proofs next week.
Just wondered if people had any examples that worked out well, any ideas, anytime i've done it in the past they photos have never stood out to me.
Anyway, when I finish touching up the images, hopefully tomorrow, ill get some shots up for you guys.
Anyway, look forward to seeing you ideas.
Chris

Glad I could help. Imagination is endless... if you have their marriage certificate, her vail, it can be in the picture too, if you can't find flowers for instance. :)

The one on the torch is cool, but is it ok for the rings to be that close to fire?

Very nice ring shots folks - hope you had ice cubes nearby for rings on the torch ;)

LOL, well the torch shot is a bit dangerous and not recommended for a longer time period... it was lit only for a minute as the most. I placed the rings, lit the torch, took maybe two frames and blew out the torch again. The rings were HOT! So don't try this at home kids. :D
But the most prolems was to get off the sticky stuff when I used the same rings in a sunflower and then placed them on the burnt out coal on the BBQ. The B&G had no idea what I did with the rings, until they saw the shots and before I returned the rings to their box, I went into the bathroom and washed them with soap and water and used my buffer to buff them up again. :D

TOO funny Petra - you are quite the creative and daring photographer ! Good thing the B&G did not know about your "barbecue" activity with their rings..... they probably would have had heart attacks.
Still..... this thinking outside of the ring box, gives me some ideas now  . Buwwaahhhaahaha......

Oh, I was laughing myself silly when I was walking around their garden to find places to shoot their rings in. When I saw the BBQ I just fell over laughing. Unfortunately due to my laughing many of those shots were actually unfocused! :D
This is how the madness started... regular shots into those more crazy ones...

Hmmmm.... I think a little C&C is in order here. The shot on the rail is too red which tells me you used way tooooo much BBQ sauce. Try a basil reduction the next time. The Webber shot gives it a nice industrial touch.;)

Great shots Petra- Out of interest, are these ring shots taken before the ceremony or do you wrestle the rings off them afterwards?
CyberPet

Tony, all before the ceremony and the portrait session. Like when they are busy getting ready and there's not really something to shoot when the bride sits in rollers.

That's a very nice arrangement you composed, with good layout. I like it.
You may want to consider though increasing the contrast on the ring set, darkening it, or sharpening it a little more - just something to set it "off the paper" a little more. There is nothing wrong with what you did, but the way the rings are lit, they almost look like a small photograph on the marriage license.

Thanks Pearl. You are right about the rings looking a little flat. To be honest it is just what I had here at my other job - ready to go so to speak.
To the op - just work at getting a nice shallow DOF, focused on the rings.

When you put the rings in the fire, you did'nt happen to see any writing suddenly appear around the outside did you?

Great shots! I would like to take some shots of our rings 14 years down the line. What type of lighting do most use, available, on camera, studio lights? How would be the best way to meter a ring shot? I know this is a general question but would appreciate the help.

Mitch

thats the ring my wife wanted, or very similar anyways. except that the band alone was $4k and it needed a very large center stone to make it look decent. At the time I was still in school with not much cash, but she still got something pretty good. Her only requirement was that it cost more than my camera (1d2)

I am not a big ring shot fan-and am also looking for new ways to shoot them. Check out www.snapshotsbyclare.com and look at her ring section-the rings on the Jag is my fav! My sister hired her for her wedding this summer(I am the matron of honor, though I do wish photographer was my job but...) Clare says she takes the rings while people are eating and looks for great places to shoot them...she has some unique ideas I think.

Your ring shots are fantastic and have given me some ideas (although I might not play with fire!). I have been very "traditional" and boring with the ring shots...as you can see.

Most of the time I ask the bride and groom for their rings rather than having them wear them for the ring shot. As someone earlier suggested, the wedding register. I try to use things personable (?) or sentimental to them both. The ring shot below involved a taiaha (pron: tie-aha!) It is a traditional hand carved Maori weapon which was presented to the groom at the alter. Off camera lighting (obviously) and a touch of 'fuzz'.

Here's another 'prop shot'. The bride lost her shoe up the aisle so I thought I'd use it as a funny come 'romantical' shot. I also have a scottish wedding somewhere but it'll take some time to find it. I used the sporin (sp) with the rings laid on top.

Sam, I don't think he's having an exhibition, all I know is that he's renting some studio nearby - where other has studios too (you might know what I'm talking about, I have no clue). He'll be a blonde, bearded guy in his mid 60's. If you see him (see picture) say that you know his daughter, that'll freak him out! :D

I saw this post and decided to give my hand a go at it. My wife and I didn't get many good photos from our wedding as I was foolish and asked my sister (who I thought would do good job but good landscapes don't translate into good wedding shots) to shoot it. So I did a few of our rings. Let me know what you think. I started with BigIve's shot on the bible, I hope you don't mind it was such a great shot. CC greatly appreciated.

Here is one similar to BigIve which I have been wanting to take for some time but waited until the right light was there. Directly out of the camera, seriously no PS work done besides making smaller.
Hope you like it
