We came to Canada on our honeymoon and took a coach tour from Calgary to Vancouver via Banff and Jasper as part of it. A wonderful experience and fantastic scenery. We didn't actually get to Maligne Lake although I have seen several pictures of it and it looks awesome. We did go to Maligne Canyon though.

Wow Lonnie, that is indeed a terrific view! The lighting looks like it was touch difficult - did you have to do an HDR conversion on it to obtain that level of detail?

Did you see the new server cabinet we had installed when I posted a couple of shots back? I thought of you when I shot that - nowhere near your level of technology but a pretty big improvement for us :D New phone system and upping the computers to new rackmounts soon.

It took me a while to figure out how to capture settings like that, but after a while I think I've figured out what works best. I turn exposure compensation down a full stop, then (using a 580EX) turn up FEC one or two stops, depending on how dark it is inside. Seems to work well for me. I'll tweak things in ACR if I have to, but that usually isn't necessary. I have a number of similarly composed shots and always seem to get that HDR look without actually having to do an HDR conversion on it.

Edit to add: If there's glass in the window, I bounce the flash off the ceiling (usually with a diffuser on it). If there's no glass (abandoned buildings), I aim the flash forward.

Sounds good. I'll have to try to remember this info for when I get an external flash I can use. (I do have an old external flash but I'm not willing to use it until I know what voltage it throws back).

It is a very nice way of framing; no conflicting colours that can glaringly over power the photo but subtlety prominent and enhancing. I haven't looked around but should for a tutorial on photo framing. Just picking up on what I see others doing here and "stealing" the idea for my stuff.:D
