It is a good picture. I think that the left is to bright and the tree is too dark. This does make the tree stand out better though. It is all peronal prefrence.

The overexposed background and dark trunk are dramatic, but there is no detail in the dark areas and in the washed out areas.

Good idea though

I don't like the overexposed background at all, it just looks like you pointed the camera in the general direction of the tree and released the shutter without thinking. (Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh). Maybe filling the shot with the tree in some way would work better.

It is definately a subject with huge potential, but feels like you just missed - due to the harsh lighting on the left. Maybe go back and try from a different angle - tree off center. The tree needs to be more visible, or at least the detail in the tree. Overall I think I would spend more time with that tree - the possibilities are endless.
