B&W conversions. please comment

There's not much colour around nowadays, so what do you think of these b&w conversions.
Do they do the trick?

All I did was open the Camers Raw files in Photoshop CS. Then I turned the saturation down as low as it would go, increased contrast & shadows slightly & added a touch of brightness to some.

Very nice!

The fourth is really good, it's something about the "fans" the trees form, and the hard contrast. Great!

I need to do some b&w, it's very effective and brings a whole different feeling to some pictures. I really like some b&w pictures with fog, very moody.
