I am using windows XP with a Canon G2. My wife has my old G1. Which is the correct driver so that I can download from both cameras onto the Windows XP computer?

The Canon Powershot website lists the WIA drivers for the G2 as 3.9.0 and the G1 as 3.9.1. My guess is that you will have trouble with both drivers installed.
I would use a Flash Card Reader, either USB or PCMCIA. That's what I do and it works great, especially with Breeze downloader.

I agree. I bought a SanDisk CF reader and haven't looked back. Windows XP sees it as a drive and the speed is much better as well. For $20 USD you can't beat it. (SanDisk price at Best Buy.)

When the card reader is inserted into the computer, a window opens asking you how the card should be handled. One option is to open a file to accept the images. Another option is to do nothing.
I use Breeze Downloader (same company as Breeze Browser). I selected do nothing and check the remember option. Now I start Breeze Downloader and it finds the card and will automatically download the images into a dated folder in my My Pictures folder. ( The folder selection is a setup perimeter in the program.) Then it removes the image files from the card.
Total time, less than it takes to read this for a 64M card.
Good Shooting.

Dear Scientist:
Another interesting aspect of using a card reader is that they're easily shared on a network. I use HP Photosmart 1115 printers at both my home and office. They have a build in card reader.
I'm a laptop person, but at both ends I can just hook up to my network, locate the card reader (it looks just like a disk drive) in "My Network Places".
It dosen't get much easier than that.
