View Full Version : LinearSharpen 3.42 as Action in PS 6?

I installed LS 4.32 a few days ago and really liked how my images were improved over my attemps in Photoshop 6. I had about 60 files to convert so I set up an action to open up each file in a folder, run 400-800 Sharpen HQ on it and then save it to another folder. It worked great. When I got up the next morning they were all done.

Now I've been trying to run it again as an action against some more images and I keep getting an error message that Make is available. I've deleted and re-loaded the LS 4.32 action again, set up my source and destination folders and click ok on the Batch Action. It immediately comes up with the Make not available.

If I open all the files in PS 6 and run the Batch Action and tell it the source files are open files and the destination is a folder, it runs fine... at least it has the couple of times I've run this now.

I don't know what I've changed or done, but it sure is a lot better if I can run it from a source folder and save to a destination folder without having to load all the images. Does anyone have an idea where I should look? I just can't remember doing anything different the first time I got it to work.

Any help will be appreciated.

Mike,

Usually, that kind of message indicates that there is no open image file. Have you got the structure of your batch action correct? I would expect to see something like:

Open (and point to folder with linear TIFF's in File>Automate>Batch)

play action (remember you can't use the choosers here)

save (point to the folder where you want them put)

close

Hi

you both seem to know alot about auto batch, i ahve 60 photo's taken at a wedding last week and was hoping to do what you described (ie go to bed and let it get on with it)
would you be so kind as to post an idiots guide 1,2,3 etc
of how to auto batch.
i tried and each individual photo comes up with an action and i have to OK it before it moves on to the next part of the action.

many thanks.

Terry,

If you are being asked to confirm steps in LS342 then I think you have inadvertently clicked the dialogue toggle on for one or more steps.

http://www.rogercavanagh.com/images/temp/ps_actions2.gif

This shows the dialogue toggle - 2nd column from left - on for those actions marked with a red blob. None of the steps in LS342 have this dialogue toggle on except for 1 or 2 stop statements. (BTW both the marked statements happen to have the include toggle - LH col - off, that's just chance as I had this graphic set up to explain something else. All LS342 should have this column checked.)

The structure for your batch action is as I outlined in my previous post.

Hope this helps,

Hi Rodger,

I could have sworn when I ran it the first time on the 60 files that on the Source section of the Batch Action that I had both "Override Action Open Command" and "Supress Color Profile Warning" checked. When you said it's indicating something not open, I unchecked the "Override Action Open Command" and it worked. That's what I get for relying on my memory.

Thanks for the point in the right direction.

Mike

Hi Terry,

The first time I got mine to work, it was fairly easy. The second time wasn't. Now that I have it working again, here is how I have my action setup to convert out of a folder and save into another folder:

In PS 6: Make sure you Action is loaded (if you can run it on an open file, then it is loaded). Go to File -> Automate -> Batch. In the Play area, under Set, click the down arrow and select LinearSharpen 342. In the Action click on the down arrow and pick the action you want (I pick 400-800 convert and sharpen HQ).

In the Source area select Folder and under Choose, find the path to the folder you have the files you want to convert saved. Click the "Suppress Color Profile Warnings". The other two are not checked.

Under Destination select Folder and in Choose, find the folder that you want the converted files saved to. Leave "Override Action" box unchecked. I use the default File naming and just go with the same name since it's going to a different folder.

On Errors, leave it at Stop For Errors. Click on Ok. It should now start running.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks to you both, i tried what you both suggested and it worked.
i actually took 110 at the wedding and was plodding through 1 at a time pressing OK...OK...OK...ok etc. to each individual action.

and was thinking ..What is the point...to much work... will shoot jpg next time. Now i can shoot RAW again and use the batch to process them

many thanks again for the help.
