I used to go by you two or three times a year on my way up US 15 from Baltimore to Watkins Glen. But a wife and two daughters have a way of keeping me close to home. :?
I still know the way, I just need the time... :(
Perhaps we can meet in the middle (Carlisle or Hershey) sometime to shoot some cars or something.

Belmondo if your driving from SoCal, will you be on I-70? If so, is a part of the plan to spend an overnight stop in Indy? If so, we need to meet up and have a beer. Also if you want a quick tour of the city, I will put on my tourguide cap and show you around. Let me know.

I'll let you know after we make a few decisions regarding the itinerary.

IndyJeff,
The raceway is not to far from me, about 1.5 hours if traffic is normal. I've never been to an Indy race before, sounds like it would be fun. Maybe we can meet up there. I'll keep it in mind.
I know I will be attending the Super Chevy show at the dragway in Joliet in August.

Y'all need to swing down through Nashville and Chattanooga (where you can visit Tom W):

Then, you can swing down to Atlanta and spend a couple of grand at KEH.com, cut across I-85 to I-77, and head through one of my favorite interstate drives, I-77 near Wytheville. Then you can catch I-81 and follow the Appalacian mountians northeast.

Upon reflection, and considering how one word can make all the difference, Ocean City is known as 'OC' and the other is known as 'The OC' (right?), so we can both coexist. I might take you up on your offer, though, if I could just take and keep a few small parts and transplant them to the right coast. There are several car and Bike shops that I would love to have closer to me - I wouldn't take all of them, just enough to keep from having to pay shipping when I want something. Let me know if we can work something out. :) :D

Leo, that picture was taken with my S-400 last summer. Its the Walnut Street Bridge in Chattanooga (pedestrians only now). The bridge has been around a while, and has a wooden deck. I've got a decent album of 4X6 prints from the Elan that I may scan some day.

Jeff, I'm about 2 hours from Nashville. Depending on the date of the race, I may even be free to drive up. When is the race?
Nashville is a very cool city - go downtown and visit some of the smaller clubs. Great bands, and a cool little blues bar in Printer's Alley.

Tom W. the Nashville race is July 17th, which is a Saturday night. The Infinity Pro Series runs Friday night and I am scheduled to shoot that for 2 teams and maybe a 3rd if he gets a ride. I will be free all day Sat until about 4pm and the races are over about 9 or 10. All my post race work can be done on Sunday unless I pick up a news client too. If that happens I won't be out of there until maybe 10:30 or 11.
Lets play it by ear and see what happens. I would be happy to meet for a late dinner Sat if you would be so inclined.

Playing it by ear is fine - I checked my work schedule and I am off that weekend. I wouldn't mind seeing a race if I can get in. I'll check around on the web.
Perhaps on Saturday, a little tour of Nashville might be in order during the day. I don't know my way around town real well, but I have a vague famaliarity with it having been there a few times.
Or, maybe we can get a group of photographers together so that I may learn the professional chimping techniques. :)
I'm in Florida right now, visiting the folks. I'd like to look into this a little more when I get back home.

That could work. Hooters' lunch is good and picturesque. :D
How's the track set up in Nashville? Are the stands set up in such a way that there might be some good photo opportunities? Or conversely, can one walk around along the fence like I could at the Cleveland race several years ago?
Some of the best seats I've ever had at a race was at Indy, sitting high up at turn 3 so that I could watch the cars narrow from 2 or 3 abreast to single file for the turn at the end of the back straight. Lots of action there that year (and we got our tickets from a scalper, as a trade up from another set of tickets we got from another scalper).

Tom the stands at Nashville are on the western side of the track and I would say that halfway up you can see the entire track. I am not sure but I don't think there is any access to the fence where you could walk around the outside and get some shots. LOL Even my credentials don't give me outside wall access. Being on the outside wall at a track with very few starightaways and watching Indy cars is not a good thing for your health LOL. Since the parts really fly when these cars make contact, outside is a HIGH RISK position. I do get that access at Kentucky and trust me, it is a little scarry when you have a car come by you at 200 MPH less than 20 feet from you. I do know the inside wall is restricted to hot credentials only and they are very strict on enforcing that. I saw several guys get booted last year because of improper credentials along the wall.
Hooters picturesque? LOL Of course, nothing beats a good shot of wings on a plate.

I'm just recalling how close we got in Cleveland, but they set up the pits outside of the track, so we weren't as close to the course as one might think, though I did get some decent views of a short straight as the cars drove towards the pit entrance (there was a small chicane at the end of this straight, so I doubt they'd exceed 125 or so at that point on the track. I think top speeds were reached at the first back straight as the cars came through a very long curve. IIRC, top speed was around 175, but this is from memory.
It's been quite a few years since I was at that race.
Anyway, I'll have to figure out what I intend to do. I'd love to shoot a few shots at the race, but only if there's a reasonable chance that I'll get something decent (or at least have a chance of getting something decent).
Is there infield access? Standing room only access? Anything like that?

She is bringing a laptop and her digital camera. Does she need any

access to the internet, is the "eithernet" connector the same???

Rod she will need an adapter for the power socket in UK.
Check the laptop transformer, it should be for 110v~240v and 50~60Hz.
Ethernet connectors like the RJ-45 should all be the same in UK as it is over here.
Just remember the adapter for the power socket and make sure both the transfer on the camera battery charger and laptop is rated for 240v and she should be fine.

Lots of US-residents here . Thanks to my boss I visit both the US & Canada often, and I'll be in Toronto again in July and can visit some relatives in the Syracuse NY area.
But I'm from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The pics are on my www.
By the way Rod, I use both my laptop and the G3-charger in the US with an adapter for the socket so it should also work the other way around. Internetting from my hotelroom is also never a problem.
