just wanna let you guys take a look. i slipped and fell while holding the camera and got some snow on the body right after i took off the UV filter. nothing damaged. i was just about to put it up for sale and upgrade to a 2.8 IS. damn.
please help me out and take a look. does this look bad? nothing is out of the ordinary except for the cosmetic stuff. it's actually not really noticable unless you really look at it. would you guys suspect any damage? BTW, this is my first "L".
i apologize if i sound paranoid. this hobby is very expensive to me.
here's a test shot after i got home.

here's a shot of the body with my 17-70. do you think it's still worth selling? i've only had it for 3 months. didn't even use it that much. :(

what? 600$
hahahaa..man oh man..i need to plan a trip to the US.
in Italy the cheapest you can get it for, obviously online is 620€ making it almost 200€ cheaper in the US.
fantastic!
btw..i think it looks fine. As long as you explain the situation to any buyer, and show that the optical quality is perfect I think you will only loose a small amount for the outer damage.

If the optics aren't damaged, you're not in big trouble. Make sure you tell the buyer there's some minor damage - it's important to be upfront about that. Chances are you'll lose a bit of value on it, but not much.
Good luck,
Collin

The Forgotten is not that great a movie, but for some reason I own it too.
My 70-200 2.8L IS hit the pavement pretty hard recently. It fell out of my vest from about waiste level. The rear lens cap was on and took the brunt of the impact. There's a barely noticeable little scuff on the tripod ring. Other than that, no physical damage whatsoever. These tough bastards were made to take a thorough beating and keep on shooting. That's why we pay the premium price. ;)
My lens hood is starting to look like its been through a war zone though. LOL

That'll T-cut out ;)
Nah, ask if any specialist could recondition the shell, and see if the cost is worth it. I'd just keep this lens tbh.

You can't dribble an L....no matter how tough they seem to be!

Oh, Lord, war zone? Your gear has been through a war zone. And your pictures therefrom were fantastic.

Yeah, but my gear took a more severe beating from 3 weeks vacation in Africa than it did during my year long tour in Iraq. And back then I had a 20D! LOL
I guess when you know you've got tough pro gear that can withstand a certain level of physical abuse you tend to not baby it so much. ;)

I only cringe a bit when one of the Ls takes a bump...and the same goes for the 1 series bodies.....don't have that same confidence in a 20D and a regular lens.

It's funny... your pics look ok btw. I think you lucked out.
Anyway... yeah, it's funny that you'll probably take a very slight hit in the price you're able to sell it for. I say it's funny because this lens sells new for $579.95 yet with this minor cosmetic damage, you'll probably be able to get $500 for it. I'm selling a "like new" Tamron 28-75mm on the classified board and have people trying to low ball the hell out of me. Yet another reason to buy Canon lenses over the 3rd party lens
