I am shortly buying a EOS 5D Lens Kit (EF 24-105 f/4 L IS) once I find the cheapest.
Should I take out the extended warrenty insurance also or is the camera realiable without it.

Arkward one to answer this.
If I suggest not taking the extended warranty and the camera or lens dies after 53 weeks, is it my fault?
If you take out the warranty on my say-so and the camera and lens are fine after 10 years, did I suggest you waste your money?

MY take on this, personally, is that in general extended warranties aren't worth the money. They aren't really warranties but insurance policies and as such things go are expensive - you could take out an all-risks policy for you gear or add it onto your household policy.
I know that this won't cover breakdowns, but extended warranties don't cover theft or loss..............
Normally the manufacturers warranty of 12 months is sufficient to cover any teething problems - and don't forget that in the UK we are well covered for at least 12 months by the retailer who has to assume responsiblity for any problems for a minimum of 12 months - it could be longer - as your contract is with the retailer and not with Canon anyway.

If the retailer will give you a free extended warranty then take it - don't forget also that he is most likely making more money out of selling you a warranty than selling you the camera!!!!!! So it's in HIS interest that you buy a warranty.

And, if you have bought a three/five year extended warranty; will you have that camera/lens in three/five years? Or have upgraded/bought the latest?

OK, so it's your call now I suppose.

Extended warranty invariably = waste of money.

I have regular insurance on my gear, not extended warranty. I figure that I'm more likely to suffer a loss/failure due to external factors than to normal wear and tear, and the normal wear and tear repair's likely to be cheaper. So - it gets soaked, stolen or smashed (any of which will "total" it) - I get a new camera "free". The shutter goes - I fix it at a couple of hundred and keep going. I'm also likely to upgrade before it wears out anyhow.
