I'm curious to find out what RAW settings people is using. Myself when I shoot RAW I use Jpeg small & dicard the jpegs. I do this because I know that I want the RAW file only. But I would like to hear about others.

I also use the small JPEG setting, because I'm not using the JPEGs. I wish there was a way to switch off the embedded JPEG - it's just wasting space.

I'm with Jesper on this one. Do not extract the jpegs so have no need for them.

Make it 3 for 3 then. I shoot RAW only and do not really care (at this time) if I have JPG. I did change my settings though from jagged JPG to smooth JPG small just in case I had a need and it should not really impact my storage capacity.

I have no need for the JPEGs since I'm going to develop them myself. I also wish that I could choose RAW-only.

But what do you mean by "discard the JPEG" ? Do you mean the .THM file?

I shoot RAW with large jpg, then extract the JPG and discard the RAW because I only want the jpg. I like doing things the hard way.

I used to shoot in the RAW, but local authorities never quite understood the artistic eccentricities of a wannabe genius.

Thanks for all of the reply's, I'll continue to shoot RAW /Jpeg small/fine for slower shoots. I really wish I had we had the option to shoot RAW only but no big deal.

The original post is from someone with a 10D, if you are using the G series, this topic does not apply to you.

I use a G-series, and I'm applying myself to this topic

I actually like the fact that jpeg's are recorded with the RAW files. I extract those first, and go through them to see which shots I like best. They are much better to look at than a thumbnail. You can quickly get an idea of which ones are worth editing. I usually delete them when I'm done browsing.. but that's ok, because they are still in the RAW files, and I can extract them again anytime.

G2 USERS RULE!!!

I use a 10D, and I still have no idea what he means by discarding the JPGs. I get two files - CRW and THM. The THM is a tiny (160x120) JPG renamed, but holds much of the EXIF info, so it's saved forever. I figure the JPG is inside the CRW? Yes/no? And how do you discard them? I wouldn't mind saving the room, and I don't need them as I use Capture1 (which I *think* doesn't use the embedded JPGs).
