I was told that if I right click on an image, I could gain access to the exif data by selecting *properties*.
What I get when I do that, is of course the properties window with a *General* tab at the top.
It gives me the URL, size, and dimensions, and of couse the *Type*= JPEG.
No other *tabs* for any other info ..

Ok .. I'm a dork .. lol .. what am I doin wrong?
Here's the image ...

It depends on..

a) does the image have EXIF embedded..
b) what app are you using to view?

eg Firefox requires an extension to be installed then you can right-click to get EXIF. Same as Windoes Explorer. I use IExif free app.

Thanks .. if I saved it also as a PSD .. which I did .. could I see it there?
I have PS 6.0 and an older version of PS Elements 2.0

I'm not sure those versions of PS are EXIF compliant. I can certainly see it on my images in PSE3 tho. But not as a right click - in the properties drop down.

uh! Interesting .. I'm on another forum and someone (in an old thread) suggests that
"in Photoshop go to files and down below it will read FILE INFO"

When I do that .. there is nothing but an empty window .. with no info .. lol .. Grrr

You can see my exif data on this image tho ? Wow .. errr, could you post it for me ? lol

There is no exif in that image.
You probabely save using 'Save for Web', which strippes the exif.

Thanks .. I used *save as* and saved as a JPEG .. matter a fact .. I also shot it in a JPEG format ..

:(

Hmmm, did you by any chance copy - paste the image into a new document to get the border? That is another way of losing EXIF. Otherwise, I think it should be there...

No .. I made the border after uploading into PS .. added it there ...

I've installed FxIF (http://ted.mielczarek.org/code/mozilla/fxif/) (<--invisible link), but I see that most images lose the data when being resized. Is there a good way to resize for attachment without losing Exif tags?

How did you make it? If you drag a photo to another document in PS, the EXIF stays behind.

Just resize in Photoshop, and use 'save as' (not save for web).
Works for me: http://www.moonglade.net/~rene/061125RnR/source/image/rhd_20061125rnr0307.jpg

Exif is there.

DigiGrin,
I don't believe PS 6 works with Exif, however PS elements 2.0 does. Try to save as with PS elements and you will have the Exif data with your photo.

René Damkot,
There is no Exif data in your photo either ???

Should be: Copy-pasted from what I can see in Safari:

If I DL and open in iView or PSCS2, I also see the complete IPTC....

René Damkot,
Seems strange as even PS elements 2.0 can't see the Exif on the photo you have posted nor can the plug in for firefox or Irfanview software. ??? Are you viewing the file with Safari from the file on your computer or the file on http://www.moonglade.net/~rene ???

File on the server. (I right click on the image, open in a new window, right click again, and select 'view EXIF'). Also I gave it a try, and downloaded the file from the server, and opened it in PSCS2 and iView. All info is there. Also clicking CMD-i in the finder gives some brief IPTC.

Just gave it a try in Firefox. Doesn't show up there in 'properties'. Strange.
If I view the source, the IPTC is there...

Ahh just variations in software, Digital Photo Pro & Windows XP shows the Exif data but PS elements 2.0, Firefox plug in Fxif and Irfanview don't. Hmm... wish they could all read it :)

Hmmm, strange. Now to find a solution to that problem....
(And to that of the OP)

René Damkot,
Thanks, I just tried this one for firefox Exif Viewer by Alan Raskin (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3905/) that was at the link you provided and it works well (even with your photo). Ahh... there is always better then what I have :)

I wonder if this has something to do with it (from your image, Rene):
"Alternate text: The image “http://www.moonglade.net/~rene/061125RnR/source/image/rhd_20061125rnr0307.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."

I ininstalled FxIF and tried the one John_B linked to. Neither show your data.

René Damkot

That is from where?
How about this image: link (http://www.moonglade.net/~rene/POTN/rhd20051201Dyzak054.jpg)?
It's straight out of PSCS2, not thru iView Media Pro.... Might be iView is using a different format. I do know both iView and PSCS2 have difficulties (are unable) to get the "é" in my name right, but both do it wrong in a different way...

Rene' there is definitely no exif showing for your first image...but it does show for your linked version.

René Damkot
16th of January 2007 (Tue), 13:47
....strange. I see EXIF (different, but there) in both images.
Don't mean to hijack this thread though.
Has the OP solved his issue allready?

I reinstalled FxIF, so I have both plugins running now. I see dead peop... err Exif data for your linked image.
