I currently have a Denon AVC-3000 and Klipsch SB-1 left/right channels. My center channel is a Klipsch SC-1.
My problem is my subwoofer is a puny, $40 Jenson 8" something-or-other, and I've been looking for an excuse to get a new one.
Well, my luck has changed (sort of), and the Jenson's seals are starting to weaken/break. Thus, the bass it puts out is very, very low and distorted. So, I've been looking at getting a nicer one to match my other speakers.
The SVS is regarded as a very good sub for music, which is what I'll be using it for. Also, it will be a much better match for my system, as my current sub begins to bottom out at about 1/8th power (it's sad :().
My question: Is this sub too much for my system. It tips the scale at about $480, which is about as much as all my other components combined. I don't mind spending the money if it's going to be a great fit, but there's no sense in buying a canon to kill a mosquito. However, my favorite part of music is the bass, and I have always loved the feel and sound of good bass reproduction, so as long as I can use most of the sub's power, I'm fine with it.
I want to make sure that I'm not buying a subwoofer that my current setup can't use 50% of its potential. I like loud music, and SVS has one of the best subwoofer reputations around. It seems like a good match, but having never really heard an audiophile-quality sub I don't really know what to expect.
Thanks for any help!
