i did go see the pic at your flickr page though. its nice but the sun in the frame kind of messes it up a bit (like you said). sun and snow at the same time have to be hard on the meter? I'm a rookie myself but id try and come at it from a different angle to take the sun out of play. maybe you could get a reading off the trees or brick and recompose? I'm not familiar with the S3, does it allow you to grab a reading before you snap the pic?

ill bet if you panned left a bit and got rid of some of the sun and snow on the right the exposure would have been better. probably wouldn't be the shot you had in mind though.

I can see it now, looks like a nice see but top right is a bit overblown and it needs more contrast to pop the detail..you can do some cool this in pp.

This is an interesting subject, is it local to you? I bet some other times of the day would make this an amazing image - would love to see some sunlight in the middle down where the water is exiting. Keep at it and try some different lighting!

I think this is a good shot, but would have been great if the sun or light would have been overhead maybe. Still learning here so cant give expert advice, can only say what looks good to me :)

There is a way to set the exposure setting to evaluateive or spot on the S3 but I don't have mine in front of me right now to explain. Check your user's manual because it has clear explanations on how to do that. The picture seems bright enough that if you would have metered for the sky you could have brightened the shadows a bit in post processing.

Maybe if you would have zoomed in a bit you could have avoided that rail on the lower tight and kept out some of the sun without losing the falls or the wall. If you get a chance to go back again, try using the stitch tool to create a pano from the hill on the right to more of the lake on the left. Maybe?
