Thats awesome the dog lets the cat take a ride! :D
Thanks very much! They're best buddies - like brothers. One would be miserable without the other. Sometimes the cat actually rides the bulldog like a mahout on his elephant. That dog has a heart of gold.

The zenith and nadirs were just black holes so I cut them off ;)
Have constructed a pano head using Kirk BH-3, Wimberley Sidekick and Kirk plate, giving me the ability to take +30 and -30 degree shots. So my next try is taking 4 shots at +30 and 4 shots at -30 alternating. This should capture them ;)
That'll start taxing my Photoshop skills, as I'll need to remove the tripod legs from the nadir...

that will work, assuming you're using a full frame camera. I use +/- 30 degrees and the stitching goes together perfectly in ptgui (most of the time)
Check their website (i think it's the faq section) but they give you a pretty easy way to warp the stitched pano to get the tripod in the center of the image, making it easy to edit out, and then how to warp it back when you get finished.

I'm curious about hyperfocal distance focusing with this lens? I have both the 15mm and the 5D and need a little technical advice on this subject. If i manualy focus my lens so f/8 or f/11 and set the fstop on my camera to either of these aperature settings, is this hyperfocal distance?

I've rented the Canon & bought the Sigma. There aren't many differences in IQ from what I can tell. The Sigma has a quieter AF and the lens cap was designed much better than the Canon. Other than that there aren't many differences. They're close to the same size, both 2.8, IQ comparable... for me it just came down to price.
It's the only Sigma lens I own because you can compare the lenses based on IQ & price alone since all the other bells & whistles do not exist for these lenses.

Switched to the 15mm from the Tokina 10-17 because of the horrible chromatic abberations on the Tokina. I'm actually digging the little bit less distortion (using this on a 1D, 1.3x crop).

Sort of...and I know it's a little dark on the left edge, but, the perspective has been corrected...without PS. Just shot that as is, with the lens/camera...so, it's basically 15mm wide on a 5D.

VERY limited effect on a cropper, there are some exellent examples in this thread.
Sigma makes a 10mm fish for croppers - I was going to buy it, but picked up a 5D in stead :)

Depends what you mean by well. It wont give you as much of that circular effect. There are other lenses better suited for crop cameras such as your 40D.

This is a nice lens. It's very sharp and colors are pleasant. He's a photo for the short time I have owned it. I also have a Sigma 8mm FE and prefer the distortion on it over this lens; all personal preferences. It was a tough decision on which one fisheye to keep.

I've seen your name (or something simular) on FH or flickr? Yeah, won't distort much on your 40D. I prefer an 8mm on a 1.6x body, (check the lens sample pages) over a 15mm on a full frame. But you will have to crop or clone over the corners if you don't want any vignetting with the 8mm. The 8mm on a full frame will give you a complete 180 degree circle giving me more creativity for my two cameras.
Stop by the Honolulu POTN Hale on my sig! we have a meet tomorrow and you can try out equipment and lenses.

i like the photo's in the lens sample pages, but I was wondering if there's an attachment that will give the same fisheye effect on a 1.6x crop body as it would on a full frame body?? I don't mind paying extra, but i'm just not sure about build quality.

HELP: I love this lens, and plan to buy it very soon. I have a rebel xti (1.6 crop) and think I still want it. It does still give distortion on a 1.6 crop, correct? Right now the widest I can go is 18mm on my kit lens, and I like the effect of that. I wanted slightly wider and more distorted, but not to crazy. So I think this lens is a good choice? Thanks for the help.

The 10mm Sigma fisheye or the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye zoom are normally recommended for APS-C cameras like yours, but it sounds like you might prefer the more subtle effect of the 15mm. You really need to give it a try to see if it's what you're after.

At the time I couldn't afford the 14L so I purchased the fisheye and I use the software recommended by Ken Rockwell (http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/dxo/optics-pro.htm)when needed to straighten everything out.

that's the funny part. I have a remote I cut the wire on and made SUPER long:
http://www.benjacobsen.com/wp-content/gallery/pad2008/B5DA4733.jpg
that's JUST for this, but I forgot it Yesterday.... But, considering it's SUCH a wide lens, I just stood the monopod up at about the right level and AFed it and crossed my fingers (these were all done with the 2 second times and quick, pull camera in, press shutter, get it back up motions!).
With the remote you just switch you AF back to the shutter (assuming you're using the rear button) so the remote will also AF and just hope the point lands on the subject, but as long as it's close and it's not WIDE OPEN the FE has crazy DOF so it's not much of a worry. ;)

Plus this lens is amazingly sharp for being a fish. Comparing to to something like the 8mm peleng is like comparing play doh to a knife. There's not much out there that the playdoh could cut through...

Actually here it is the exact same price..they are both new from my local camera store >>$1020.00 CDN (yikes..a little pricey for a toy!)... I did find two 15mm Canon's on Kijiji, ($775 and the other $900), but I have never bought a used lens before so I am a little leary...

I've used both, and bought the Sigma based on price. This was before I recently noticed the shocking price increase of the Sigma. Pretty much everything on both are equal: size, IQ, color, contrast, etc...
You really can't go wrong with either IMO... both are really good.

That's just one of the ways to frame the shot. That's all. Don't read anything else into it.

Thank you. I also love the distortion it creates.

The lenses are completely different. The 16-35 tries to correct distortion, while the 15 Fisheye doesn't. The fisheye gives you 180 degrees FOV, which is pretty huge.
Check out this comparison I posted a while ago between the 14L II and the 15 Fish, it might be helpful to you.

^ nice tim! I've done similar comparisons between my sigma 12-24mm (at 12mm of course) and my 15mm FE:

depends on what you're after, but both are a ton of fun... 12/14 and the 15mm FE are M I L E S W I D E R than 16mm though. ;)
