Hello once again, I just wanted to drop a quick note letting people know I have completed another month of daily shooting and posting. Please feel free to browse my galleries and let me know what you think of my work. Any helpful tips in how I may improve any photo are most appreciated. It’s been a fruitful month for a February. I find I am becoming more engrossed in photography as I proceed with this project. I’ve been learning a lot but feel I still have a long way to go before I consider myself any good. LOL

Here is the link to my gallery: http://www.pbase.com/darter02/february_2004

You may leave comments directly under any image or on the gallery as a whole.
Pbase, users, feel free to vote for the gallery if you think it’s any good.

Thank you,
Ron

I see a red "Moved" text in the front of my post. Did I post in the wrong place? I thought I put it here where we share photos. If I didn't in the first place, sorry, I must have clicked the wrong link....

Definitely a nice collection. Some fantastic stuff in there... Reminds me to get out of my office more and walk about the plant. Now that it's starting to warm up I'll have to make more of an effort to do that....

Excellent collection. I really enjoy all the photos in your gallery.

For the benefit of us photography-beginners:

1. how much time do you spend on averange taking photo and any post-photography work, such as selection, touch-ups and posting?
2. some of your shots are so real-time in life capturing the very unique moment/event of life. how do you keep yourself so prepared? I also miss out such moments by the time I start my camera and figured out relevant settings!

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Grisly

Hello, I will try to answer your questions as best I can. When I first began this project I would get very “worked up” and worry over just where I would go to shoot photos. I didn’t just want to snap pictures of my sink or whatever to fill a daily quota. I can remember how I would spend a lot time just trying to think of where I should look.

With time though I have learned to relax a lot about the who-where-what-when of my photos. I’ve taken to always carrying my camera with me on a daily basis. I use that little hand strap that folks use with the 10D and the Big Ed battery grip. I don’t have the Big Ed, but I found that looping the strap to just one corner of my camera has made a very secure sling and holds the body in snug with my hand. In this way it’s very easy to walk around with the camera ready to shoot.

Usually though I end doing a lot of shooting during my lunch break at work. We get an hour break and I used to just stay in my office and mess around on the PC. Now I attach one of my two lenses (soon to be three), maybe pop the other in my coat pocket and then head out for a long stroll. If the weather is too bad I will walk around inside the building where I work. It’s provided me with many photo ops as I work in a museum. I try not to do too much in here though as it just seems like cheating. When I go outside I just follow my intuition and sometimes I find something and other times I don’t. Either way, by the end of the day I usually have at least one shot that I really like.

Then the other fun part comes into play. It’s become a ritual for me to now return home, connect the 10D to the PC and upload the photos. I then spend around an hour picking an processing the one I like for the day. I find it relaxing actually. If there any other shot I like I then add them to my other galleries as well.

You also asked about settings on my camera. I have found that as I have been doing this everyday it is becoming second nature to quickly change modes and change my settings to suit the scene. It is beginning to become second nature to know what to do. It’s not flawless yet, and I have a long way to go before I think I’m any good at it but it’s getting easier. If you do a project like this I think you may find you confidence in using your equipment will grow. As a caution though, your appetite for new equipment and lenses will also grow!! LOL ;-)

Your words are very inspiring. I have much time to shoot but never seem to get out and do anything like you have. I have a website with tons of
space but don't often post anything there. I'm just too lazy. I have to change that some way.

Anyway, your photo montage is very nice. Good luck with it. A photo a day for a solid year is nothing to sneeze at.

LOL....actually, my jacket's hood has a fur border on it. The wind blew it hard one time when I was looking at the bird through my lense while it was sitting in a tree above me. It was something to see it focus on that motion on my shoulder so intently.

That's how they spot their food from high altitudes... One more good blow or two, and that sucker would've been gone. LOL
