Usually Canon DSLRs hold there price for some time.
Some of us have opted to "preorder" MKIIs.. some of us may have been influenced by the past record where the introductory price has held for some time,. usually at least a year, if not more.
However,. in this case current info on international pricing is leading me to beleive that the MkII price will drop in months.
Canadian vendors have added the MkII to ther catalogs this week,.. and the going rate seems to tranlate to about $4,000.00 US (aftr exchcange)
EDIT: This price I saw was for Canadian CPS Bulk purchase for AP press and pros.. not at all reatil.. My mistake
Usually Canandians have to pay more than US residents for electronics. Based on this information I beleive the US price of the MkII will go down to at least $4,000.00 from the likes of B&H buy Summer.
Of course this all just my guesswork,. but I do find it odd that the Canadian price is so low right off the bat.
Hmmm...
//scratches head and wonders whether early adoption is worht the $500.00 extra... :(

You may be right but worthy of mention that major companies here in England who are normally on a par with kit prices, are showing hundreds of £'s difference on the Mk II

CDS,
Just happened to drop into one of Montreal's larger Canon dealers on the weekend and asked him out of curiosity (yeah, right) about the price of the MKII.
His price in the computer was an even 6K Canuck money. At todays rate that is $4476.76 US
That was his "give to everyone that asks" price. They are usually a little flexable to those who have bought their gear there. (free Mac and Cheese  ) He was taking deposits at that price.

My mistake,
It was Canadian CPS that has $5,200.00 Canadian  ...but that's a special deal.. not applicable to us normal folk,. it's a bulk purchase thing for pros and AP... so my initial price was not really realistic.
More realistic prices include,
$5,799.00 at Henry's, Leo's in Vancouver $5,600.00 even..
There is a Shop in Florida with about 50 MkII's sold allready at $4,100.00 though... :?

CDS,
If that is the case, can you cancel your order?

I just got off the phone with my supplier and it looks to be around 5500.00 Canadian (you know the funny colored) money. I'm now on the list and he expects that orders will start to be filled mid April.
Slap me silly and call me stupid..... I really want one of those!

I CAN cancel my order... but I doubt I will.. the waiting lists are so long at most places that have offered them.. I'd rather not loose my spot.. might end up waiting untill July!
As it is,. I should be getting a Camera in the first shipment here in the US....
But for those that are on the fence.. it may not be a bad Idea to wait a while and see...
If you'd asked me 2 weeks ago, I'd have said "The price won't go down for a year"
And that is in fact excatly how it has been for every Canon DSLR since the D30... the prices do NOT go down... not for a year at the least,. if not longer.

Cancelling would be tough at this point. I have myself so worked up I would not want to wait til mid-summer. My rep indicated that if the price is lower they would match. That would be nice. I didn't have to pay up front. Did some of you have to do that?

There some store offering them for $4100. Tons of people ordered from there. I ended up getting mine for $4300. PJ's can get theirs through their news services for $3800. I think the price will hold in the $4400-$4500 range for awhile, with a few spatterings of cheaper suppliers that don't have them in stock or are way out on pre-orders.
But, one thing is for absolute sure: The price will go down at some point in the future.

Jim:
I ordered mine at the same place, and I'm 15th in line. If they get two a month, I might have it for Christmas. I was talking to a guy in the Bay Area, and he has one on order somewhere else, and he's #40 on their list. It was a place I've never heard of, which doesn't mean anything, but at least I don't feel too bad about my #15 spot.
I checked on my order today because there had been some confusion on my credit card (now cleared up), and he said they were tentatively expecting to ship on April 10. Not bad....It's March already.

We should all be fine. I wonder how many they will be allotted per month? Initially that may be an issue too to spread the wealth. I'm fine with mid to late April, but any later than that and I'll be still using the 10D for the first boat race of the year.
As we come out of our winter hibernation I'm getting the motorsports itch again so I might have to go out to the MX park again and shoot those guys...
I just want to get some time with the MKII so I can learn the new layout, new features, custom features and all that before I hit the tracks. Another thing I thought of too is that we'll be able to use the 100-400 with the 1.4 and still have AF at center-point!
Cool!

Jim, I feel your pain...it has been snowing, sleeting, hailing and well just nasty for here standards. It snowed about 3 inches and the roads were all kinds of slick. They just aren't prepared for this kind of weather in this part of England. I found it rather interesting to drive in it again, after being away from snow for so long in Tucson, Arizona. I had another chance earlier this year, about a month ago but that was ill timing... something about driving and valium (for lower back injury) don't go together. I managed to get some pics in the afternoon of that day, walking around, or stubling. Other than not checking ISO and it was set to (drumroll) 3200 the pics were well some of the worst I have ever taken. Go figure. I didn't think that was possible with L glass! LOL At any rate...if the price keeps on dropping I might have to have me one!
Hmmm...funny money...hold that thought...here is some British money for those who have never seen it...

Why should Canon put the price down on a product that has virtually no competition, is the most wanted item among all professionals, and has very decent pricing as it is? It also has most likely very limited supply, I bet 80% of shops promising it before summer will end up with nothing, especially consumer level retailers.
The price may come down some day, but not in at least a year.

I agree with CDS. I think the price is too high for the 1D MK II and you will see the prices fall by the end of the year. I for one am not ordering one at this time and I am a CPS member who can get the discounted price. I have 2 10D's and 1-D60 and a 1D so I am fine for now. I do not feel that most of us really need the 1D MK II fast performance it is nice but a bit of over kill. So if you really don’t need it then just wait I am sure a new canon “D” replacement is on the way soon. I may up grade to the Mk II when it has settled down. For now I have the 1D witch I really don’t use that much any way. I find the Files out of the 10D much to my liking over the 1D.
