I covered an event last night with the DR+550EX. I tried not to have the washed-out blinding flash look in the image, so I shot in Manual mode, f5.6, shutter 10-60, all handheld. The 550EX E-TTL and 0 FEC. Some were shot at ISO1600 W/O flash. The lighting condition was an absolute nightmare - The subjects were either in very low colored ambience light or spotted by geled, low powered spot lights. The DR+550EX came through with flying color IMHO.
The images are much more vibrant in TIF. BTW, all photos were RAW converted with C1. I could have pulled a couple more EV but decided to leave the saturated darker look alone.

Alan

Alan,
I enjoyed the gallery very much. That looked like an interesting affair. I have always envied photographers that can pull off "event photography". Great job.

Rob,
Thanks for the kind comment. It was a huge gala in SF where attendee paid upward to $200/ticket to mingle, enjoy the foods, watch the unfolding Academy Award on big screen, and to be seen. The place was divided into themed arenas and had live entertainments going throughout the evening. There were professional photographers with 1Ds and L lens abound. I was just a small timer with a pewee DR! I totally enjoyed my time behind the viewfinder, though.

Regards,
Alan

Ahhhhhh...La Cage aux Faux. Nice. Great Pics. I hope your affair was
as entertaining as the movie. Sure looks like it was.

I shot for a friend, he was the one who got the gig. I turned over the tapes to him, with an unserstanding that I'll also get the raw footage to edit my own promotional clips. There was another videographer shooting along with me, and my friend was snapping away with his D60. He brought a case full of L lens with him, worth about $8K. We didn't have anywhere to stow the gears, so we tucked them under a table right in the middle of the room! The pictures barely tell the whole story, and with all the actions happened last night, I'm sure there are certainly some juicy footages for me to use. Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure there is room for improvement in my photography skill.

Regards,

Alan
