I know quite a bit of people on the board have gone to Alaska before and my question is...from a wildlife photography perspective, which excursions did you go on and what did you like about them? Would you have chosen a different one?
We'll be leaving out of British Columbia and the ports of call are scheduled to be..
Sitka
Hubbard Glacier
Skagway
Juneau
The only one I "think" I want to do so far is in Skagway, w/the U-drive Jeep tour. The ATV and/or dog sledding ones sound cool, but I can't see myself being able to whip out the camera on those.

will the jeep not scare alot of the more timid animals away? the sleds could be better for seeing things like deer.

I REALLY second troyer16!! We went on a Princess cruise (Inside Passage) and they had a Photo Safari excursion. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT - in my estimation. One of the reasons I bought my camera was for the cruise. Although it was a Princess cruise I have see the Photo Safari offered through other cruise lines. My flickr page has several shots from that. It was a nice bus ride - boat ride with TONS of eagles, a gorgeous nature walk and ended up at Mendenhall Glacier. Well worth it - would do it again in a heartbeat...can't wait to get back to Alaska. A quick search will reveal several helpful threads about gear, bags and such. The Photo Safari was the only photo specific thing I could find but the cruise offered a lot of opportunities as well.

Yeah I will second the Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau. Going to see it again this week!
Take the train trip in Skagway, worth the $100!
First time to Sitka for us.....
Ketchican has some good photo ops too!
