You are probably thinking about dropping lenses or cameras....
I mean cash on your equipment. Total for the current gear you own.
Add up the price you paid for new or used gear. Not new price (if bought used) or MSRP.
ONLY GEAR THAT YOU CURRENTLY OWN COUNTS!! ;)
Myself i'm up to about 12K US

Oh I thought you were asking how much weight we've dropped. I'm proud to say I took off the 10 pounds I put on over the holidays.
What's that? Ohh how much cash we've dropped. I'm not keeping track but since I got my 30D in October, I think I've dropped about $4,000 between the camera, lenses, bag, tripod, cards, filters, strobes, stands and accessories. It's not nearly what others have but then again, I'm not competing. But $4,000 is a lot of money to me.

Just for my current lenses: $14,000
My future expenditure for lenses: $0.00
I'm done for life ;-)
Once you treat lens purchase as for the long, long, long haul then you're less likely to buy the BS glass, compromise, or get upset at the high cost of L glass....over the balance of your life, your lenses can last and give great service, so looking at it that way, one perceives wise purchases as a one-time cost...cause once you got your kit, it's yours forever if you take care of it, so the cost of doing photography is fairly low...in my case I shoot for pay too so I wanted commercial grade kit for that reason alone.

XTi with kit lens = $820 CAD
300D with kit lens (used) = $350CAD
50mm 1.8 MK II with ES-62 lens hood (used) = $70 USD
BG-E3 Battery Grip = $150 CAD
SanDisk CF Ultra II = 2GB ($60CAD) + 1GB ($40CAD)
Wow...approximately $1500. I know that may sound like an insignificant amount to many, but being the university student that I am, that is quite a bit of money for me.

Everything, including lenses, cameras, tripods, bags, photoshop, a pc for such, and studio equipment, we're talking just about $20k.

The number is well over $30k at last count for what I have in my possession. Of course a just out 1DsMkII racked that number up fast all by its lonesome.
Do external hard drives count that I seem to buy about 250GB of ever 4 months? If so the number may be even higher. :) 8) :)

Adding up photo paper I have used so far, my gear and accessories (ie: mat cutter) and printer and whatnot that I bought specifically for photography I am coming up with $9973 but I am sure I am forgetting something lol.

Well - I'd like to go on record as the person on here who has LOST the most gear in one sitting:
£13,950 or $27,447.54 (as per online retailer quote to replace everything...probably more like £9,000 if shopping around)
And yes - I WAS sitting with the case by my feet when a combination of my own stupidity and some very, very clever tactics by opportunistic thieves, relieved me of all our gear!

I think it's about $4000.00 for me. That's lens, 2 cameras, camera bags, 2 tripods, and other little things that you can't really go with out.
