What a great picture! The Southern Pacific 5000-class Engine was always one of the most interesting to me. It was actually called the Southern Pacific class, had a 4-10-2 wheel arrangement, and I believe was the biggest rigid-frame engine on the SP. The most interesting feature of the engine was a third cylinder under the smoke box that connected to an eccentric on the front axle, just like a crankshaft on an automobile engine/connecting rod.

This was a low-speed hauler, and was used mainly for drag freights and helper service.

Nice. I had the opportunity to see the UP E-units a couple years ago. It's nice to know there was a time when locomotive builders at least gave some thought to aesthetics instead of just function.

Great shot's out here ... One week to go and I have a week on vacation. Then I'lle try to get some shot's of the fastest real train ... (a real train has wheels, and those wheels propel the train .. no cheating floating trains) ... It virtually passes in my backyard ... The TGV ...
It's just leaving brussels here so it's not at speed yet ... Anyways love the shot's of those big bad trains posted here. !!

For those that wouldn't know the TGV ... this seems to be a shot during her record run of 575 km/h about 357 mph ...

A little further up a Class 66 with a rake of empties, the nearest we get to some of the big freight locos in America.

That was taken between North Palm Springs and Cabazon. This was an unusual sight, although we have trains through there all day long. The Pal Springs Amtrak station is a great place to trainwatch. You can see them coming from the west for a few miles, so you have lots of time to plan your shots.

Took this last week. NYSW's SU-99 has been leaving early and makes for some great shots from its eastern terminal all the way to the NY border if there are no delays. Here its about to pass the fully restored and historical Maywood station. NYSW F45 3636 is on the point.

And here is a shot of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Westerns Hoboken terminal which is operated by NJT now. Station is undergoing extensive repair and renovation, restoration. The clock tower was topped off earlier in the week. Lackawanna is lit up in red at nigiht, but hasn't been since it was installed.

Sweet...Those multi-levels are nice looking. That looks like the kind of place to get some great night shots of electrics in operation...with some good spark action on the cats.

Interesting shots, especially #1. I'm wondering how you get above the rails, but appear to be below the catenary.

Regardless, they're very well done.

correct. I was on the top level of the elizabeth station parking deck. had my sigma 70-200 with 2x on tripod and remote. I think i was at like 200mm with the first shot, 140 for the second. If I zoomed all the way to 400 I could see the station to the north, north elizabeth station. I plan on going back here for sure. Night shots, hmmmm, its not exactly the nicest neighborhood but i may try it.

Here in NJ we get to see alot of UP run thru power on some trains. I just wish it would be some of hte heritage units, mainly the katy, WP, MP. Those are my favorites.

Considering the state of the art of that camera, it's a pretty good shot.

I know, I just heard it and had to snap it without time to adjust settings. The train is at rather low speed on that spot it's a few miles from having to stop in Brussels south station. It might still be at 40mph, it is slowing down from it's top speed somewhere around 200 mph.

I have thought so many times to get out and set myself up along the track a few hundreds yards away from my house. The thalys train and eurostar pass there at regular bases every day. But I never seem come to it.
