I just looked, and it is out of stock again at B&H, both USA and import. This happened last Thursday, it was OOS in AM, in stock in afternoon, I ordered one, then OOS Friday AM. Is being delivered on time, tomorrow. :D

Just keep checking in and you will get lucky, I have been trying since the new year began. I didn't have them notify me because I don't check my e-mail that often.

I placed my order when it was still listed as in stock, but on my account update the order status is listed as proccessing. So hopefully I will still get mine and not get a back order message.

The same thing happened when I got my 10D - I was very lucky to find a window of opportunity where they had some in stock. By the next morning, that stock was again depleted.

I ordered a 50mm 1.8 from CAI Cameras last Wednesday(www.caicameras.com), and it arrived on Monday. Obviously, they had it in stock then, but it is hard to tell whether it is still in stock from their website. B and H makes it easy to tell, but CAI doesn't have that convenient "in stock" or "out of stock" spot on their website.

Well I just got my order ship notice. So I am glad to get it.

It also looks that it is impossible to find one in Europe. I called to all major vendors in my country (Slovenia), even the official distributor for Canon products - but no luck.

Also tried in Italy and Austria... you can guess the answer

I wonder if this lens will be discontinued... or that there will be a new "super plastic fantastic" MK III :?:

I have been using the 50mm f1.8 now for a few months and I have to say it is one of the sharpest lenses I own. I love it and for the small price tag, I think it is a lens that should be in everyone's camera bag!

Never got something this fast. My lens just shipped Wed. and I just checked UPS tracking, it is already at my local distribution center marked for delivery, and it was supposed to be 3 day shipping.

I received my 50mm lens and other stuff last night. I shot a couple pics of the dog to make sure it focused and set the iris. I didn't have any time and the fastest shot was hand held (one hand, I had my new "cable release" in the other) at f1.8 at 1/15 and looking only at the camera LCD. Looked sharp ? huh ?. Will have more time this weekend.

Only two more lenses to go and today's dreams will be reality. :)

Mine came today... Neat lens. I've just taken a few test shots with it, but they look great.

I gotta say, it looks odd on the 10D, though. Kind of like a really fat body cap. :)

One more note, I just happened to see it on B&H's web site, I signed up to be notified when it was available, but never received an email...

I finally broke down and bought one here in Dallas at Competitive cameras...for $89 ($20 too much but I got tired of dancing around and waiting.)

I can't wait to try it out tomorrow.

It also looks that it is impossible to find one in Europe.

I assure you, in december '03 50mm 1.8 was available in at least two shops in Slovenia, I however, bought the lens at b&h photovideo. 8) I bet some shop definetely has it, you just have to look further...

I did the same thing. It just wasn't worth the hassle for the $20.00 difference. Less if you consider shipping costs.

i'd love to do that but you would pay too much. Up here in the Frozen North they go for $129.00 which is around $95 US

I ordered a 50mm f1.8 from Beach Camera on Tuesday, they emailed me that it shipped on Wednesday and it arrived today, Friday. Wasn't supposed to arrive until Monday. I just about kissed the FedEx lady...don't tell the wife.

Nice lens. I'm driving my family crazy photographing them.
