Now I have a craving for seafood...mmm.....mud crabs and bugs......yummo! I reckon Ballina has the best seafood in the country. There one shop there that has won world wide awards for the quality of it's seafood. When Aaron comes home from work (he works in Ballina) I sometimes get him to pick up some king prawns, or bugs or something for dinner, very spoilt!

Good to hear about the ABN, thought I may have ripped myself off a little.

Helen, I think I'll have to. When I'm sitting on the lounge at night i'll do some bench presses and bicep curls with my gear!

Can't wait for tax time. We've run the business at a loss this past year and because we sold it we should get quiet a bit back, woohoo!

@Mat - welcome back. cute shot.

@Helen lovely shot well done. Needs to be printed and hung.

@Sam, that guy at work picked up a 400D & twin lens kit on Monday, just to let you know.

Happliy I have no major alligies:D but do suffer from the normal run of colds and flu. Working in a large office (there are about 60 people on my floor) doesn't help. We all seem to share what ever is going around. I remeber a few years ago I had a very bad sinus infection an the doc percribed some super strength nasel unblocker tablets. What he forgot to tell me is with those tablets you have to slowly reduce the dosage to get off of them. If you go cold turkey the sinuses block up in a major way. Here I was back at the docs with a head 3 sizes to large for my hat. Took a tablet and away it went.

I wouldn't know, I didn't mention them. ;) I was planning on going through that mob in Sydney that was mentioned a few pages back. My uncle goes overseas a lot, mostly through Sydney, so I'm planning on seeing if he'll pick it up and claim duty-free for me when he goes on one of his many trips. :D It's a big ask but i'll give him all the money before he goes of course :)

I was looking at some random blogs yesterday most of whom use the 5d and well I was looking at the bank balance and going mmm can I justify it. Though in saying that I will be holding off on buying one for a couple of weeks at least till I sort out some full time work.

I can wait Feng as still waiting for that other filter to come back in stock.

Excellent... well I'll be getting one once i sell off my 30D :) (obviously cos i'll die without a camera :| )

I know i had said i wasnt going to use the camera because i was selling it, but it doesnt look like anyone is interested (ive put it up on a few places) and i was really bored. So i went and played a bit more with the extension tubes.

Shay, do you use firefox? if so there is a nifty little extenstion called FxIF (http://ted.mielczarek.org/code/mozilla/fxif/), some people say it doesn't read all the exif but it gives me what I want - camera, focal length, shutter, iso, flash etc etc. I go right click crazy on photos :D

I have read about opanda but I haven't used it. Have they released a new version recently because last time I heard it wasn't supported for the new version of firefox.

Gheerulla is a nice area, Justin, hope you had fun. Mum goes walking up there a lot. In fact I think we are going for a walk there on Sunday or maybe it is Flinders Peak this weekend. Who knows. Off to look at your photos.

I don't really know why I use Firefox. Someone told me ages ago that it's supposed to be more functional (?) than Internet Explorer. I've just become so used to it now, IE seems foreign to me so Firefox is all I use.

Feng or some of the more IT minded individuals can probably shed some more light.

Why do I use it?

Habit? comfortable?

Good?

Plugin based? Lots of plugins? Open sourced? Not corrupted by MS Corp? Had tabs before IE? Less exploited flaws? (note how I said exploited flaws... both browsers have flaws but MS is more targeted)? Keyword Searches?

and what is it replace? InternetExporer?

pretty much yeah. it's a web browser. I use it on a MAC cos Safari isn't very good. Other alternatives are Opera, Mozilla, Safari... they're the main ones...

I've pretty much been using Netscape from v2 and earlier... and Mozilla foundation stemmed from that which then stemmed firefox and Mozilla.

edit: don't get me wrong... I still use IE for some things... but my main browsing is through FF :)

Oooh too late sorry Feng, just put it in the oven. I'll take a pic of it when I'm done. At the moment it doesn't look like much, the chicken is just about covered by veggies.

But I stuffed butter, garlic and thyme under the skin then wrapped it in bacon and packed red onions, potatoes, carrots and leeks around it and put about a litre of chicken stock in the dish. Can't wait till it's all done cooking. I hope it tastes good!

More docile, more useful, more flexible, faster downloads/connections, easy to organise downloads etc., plugins, especially adblock - you can connect to blacklists (or make your own) and you can easily block all those annoying ads, popups and javascript etc.

Plus, it's just cooler ;D

Let me know what you got .. cheers

Just been going through some of my old pics to edit for my website and came across what I think is some dead pixels in one of my photos.

The photo is about a 2 or 3 minture exposure and there's a few of these dots on the photo, here's a 100% crop of one of them

Is it a dead pixel? It's on my 30D which is still under warranty, should I take it back?

Do you notice it on other photos? If you are really worried about it then yes, take it back. But if it isnt noticable normally and you can save yourself the hassle of taking it/sending it back, then dont bother

Hi Kinnon.

This taken from my post on OCAU many many months ago...

I had the same problem on my 30D, and only noticable on longer exposures. I found some tips on dpreview (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1031&message=18151631&changemode=1) which worked in cleaning up my bright spots.

These are the steps I followed:

I had 2-3 magenta spots, and 1 bright one.

- Took a before shot (simple 30" exposure with lens cap on).
- Left lens and lens cap on.
- Went to menu and turned on sensor clean.
- Waited about 30-45 seconds.
- Turned camera off.
- Took another 30" expsosure with cap on.

Discovered only one tiny magenta spot (VERY faint, and ONLY visible at 30")

Seemed to work good for me.

Give that a shot and see how you go http://forums.overclockers.com.au/images/smilies/wink.gif

I noticed on dpreview that it didn't work for everyone.

Hope that helps :)

Nope, never noticed it before, but I've never taken pictures of the dark before. What I was doing at the time was trying to take some photos of lightning so I had my camera on bulb and just let it go. There's probably about 10 of those dots (some red) on the pictures that are of the dark.

I'm fussy though, I like things to be perfect, but I don't know if I can be bothered going through the hassel of taking it back.

just out of curiosity... why is it you don't like the 400d?

Its kind of hard to explain, but i will try anyway. I have used cameras in the past that just feel right in my hand. Like they are an extension of my arm, they feel natural and i am really comfortable using it. Like my Ricoh film camera or my yashica or an old k1000 that i used at school. The 400d has just never felt "right" to me. Dont get me wrong, its a great camera but ive never really felt comfortable shooting with it.

Since buying it, i have held a d80 and a 30d and shot a bit with both and they both just feel "right".

Sounds kind of corny i know, but it does mean something to me.

I know what you mean...

mmmm memories of the K1000! :) my first manual handed down too...

then I had the EOS50, and the 30D was the logical progression (same layout pretty much).

But yeah... it's all kinnon's fault that I'm getting the 5D! :)

um... *cough*... someone is going to put a deposit onto my 30D on Monday :| so it looks like I need to go 5D shopping...

Helen? Paul? Greg? anyone else? :D mmm group buy :)

I'm waiting for the new model 5D (5D mk11 or 6D?)

Yeah I thought about that too Paul... but I figure... when it comes out, I can sell off the 5D if it's worth it... or if it's not (like the 20D to 30D jump) then I'm no worse off.

I should ask you what's wrong with your 30D Feng, what don't you like about it ;) :p

Yeah... I took one look through the it and was sold... Full Frame all the way! :)

Probably because it isnt a 5d :rolleyes::lol:

Mmmm mainly the Full Frame thing for me... want to use the lenses I have like they're designed... 24mm = 24mm that sorta thing... I WAS content with the 30D, but yeah 1.6CF has frustrated me a couple of times :) (spose I could've got a 10-22 but EF-S and I'd EVENTUALLY go FF).

Confused? yeah me too :)

So true.

I crash this thread for a reason. Information. Information pertaining to a city in your state. You see, I'm jumping, well probably flying, countries. It's time for change of scenery. Somewhere that doesn't have minus temps and barely struggle to single figures in summer. Although I do love crisp mornings and clear blue skies all day.

So, I applied for and was offered a job in Cairns. Visas, blah, blah, long time etc so I'm collating as much info as I can. Basically, what's it like? I was there 20 years ago but hear it's changed dramatically. Good points? bad points? places to avoid etc. I know you may not all have information but any info will be greatly received.

Cheers...

I'm not sure if there's anything special about this full moon but I believe this June is one of those 'once in a blue moon' months where we see two full moons in one calendar month. The second of which is dubbed the 'blue moon'.

Thought I'd throw in a moon pic of mine too. It's from a while ago so I hope it doesn't look too out of place.

Depends what you want to take photos of. We have no botanical gardens :( but we have some amazing waterfalls, beaches and rainforrests.

There's byron bay of course that's only another 20 mins from ballina, there's lennox head and theres a few other places that only the locals know about, but it would depend if you'll have Jessica with you or not, some of them aren't all that baby friendly in the respect that they aren't the easiest to get to.

Morning Kinnon,

Soccer was on this morning and the boys had a win!! 8-nil against a team a year older. Aaron got a chance to play midfield for the last 1/4 of the game, so actually got to run around a bit for a change. (He's normally keeper - for those newbies)

As well as the soccer there was the Lorries in the bottle brush tree (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=3305002#post3305002).

hmmm... been a little quiet today. Whats everyone up to?

I just did a quick trip to the storage shed to retrieve the boxes for my camera stuff. Had some interest in the camera and the grip yesterday, but havnt heard from any of the people again :(

I'm having such a lazy day today. Just about to empty the dishwasher then I'm going to take some photos in my light tent that I've been hanging out to do for a little while.

....and I'm still keen for a photography trip to Northern NSW...Ballina. Perhaps a drive from Byron Bay to Ballina via the coast road? (If there is a road there that is!)

What's everyone doing today ?
Here is a photo I printed in the darkroom yesterday. It is for my Minor Folio, for the Social Documentary photo. I took it when we went to Maleny on the weekend.

Kodak T-Max 400 B/W film, printed on Ilford Multigrade Paper on Grade 2 1/2 contrast. Taken with 17-40 (it's awesome on full frame :D ) at 17mm. I couldn't find the EXIF data anywhere ???
