Hmmm, yeah I did too. I was outside at the time... I hope it's non-toxic...

Shay - nice photo. I love the DOF and the bokeh :)

Tina - A 10-22 for sale on the Aussie thread? hmmm I might have a look.

Ive always been a bit hesitant about selling on ebay. Im just worried that it would sell for alot less than what ive got on it here even. Besides, i dont have a paypal account at the momennt.

Can't help you here either... I just get my gear from Photo Buff usually when it's new... and 2nd Hand I hang in OCAU cos if they sell there, more than likely it's cheap... it's definitely a buyer's market. Speaking of that, the one on OCAU is still for sale for $900... only offer is $800pp. That's with the kit lens. 2 years warranty remaining (Domanye warranty).

Very true about the refurbs being good if not better... most of the time they've gone back... been completely stripped, cleaned and recalibrated...

I've sold a few things on eBay with no hassles. I offloaded some DVDs, a while ago now, and some silly bugger ended up paying about $40 more than what they could have got them for new.

I put my 2N and my 600mm on eBay a couple of times but had no success.
I ran into trouble with the camera, too. It was bought by a hijacked account so I had to arrange for all the fees to be credited.
Ended up selling both through FM.

I'd pop it on as many photo forums as you can find - eventually someone will pick it up. I think I had my camera on about 5 different photography forums before it sold. And that way you stay clear of any fees as well.

Probably can be organised, may need to wait a little while until things aren't as busy.

What are you all doing photography wise today? We've got a Lauries get together this arvo down at West End. Looks like pretty dreary weather. Bit coolish also. Good day for movies and a warm blanket inside.

I still have my 20D+grip that I've been meaning to sell for ages (just haven't got around to it) if you're interested :) Body+grip only.

It's in as-new condition, taken about 8k shots (I think, I'd have to get it out of its box and check). I'd hope to get $1000 for the body+grip.

Be happy for you to come and have a look at it if you wanted to, though I'm not home much in the next week or so.

spam, try the trading post. Trouble with selling on a photography forum is that most people have a camera, and those who do want a camera, want to upgrade, and the 400d is now really the starting point.

Ooooh how exciting.....south of the border :D

Hmmm....coast road between byron and ballina.....kind of. Can go through lennox head and that follows the coast for some of it and there's a couple of look-outs on the way. On a good day there's hang gliders at one of them.

Sunrise at the lighthouse would be beautiful, never done it but have always wanted to.

I reckon Minyon falls (and rocky creek damn, which isn't far from minyon) would be worth a look at too. It's a little bit of a drive from ballina (about 40min drive) but it's beautiful - 100m waterfall with actual water falling from it, lots of little creeks and rainforrest. On the way to that is Whian Whian falls, a little off the beaten track but very picturesque.

Depends how we do for time I guess. If we make a whole day of it I reckon we could do byron, ballina then minyon. Minyon has bbq's as well so we could do a bbq lunch?

Just an idea?

Paul, the seafood place I was talking about is a co-op, it's not an actual restaurant, you buy fresh seafood then cook it yourself. But if people want to stay late-ish I can always put on a dinner at my place. I have a very comfy lounge that converts to a double bed too if anyone wants.

I'm steering clear of aftermarkets now... I know they're cheaper and have apparently more power, but the couple of times I've used them, they've turned out to 1. not fit properly so you have to shave the edge... 2. power works well for the first bit of it's life... and shortly after (i'm talking half a year) they tend to not hold charge quite so well.

Maybe i've just been bitten by them... so I've decided genuine for me now... i mean.. I only need 4 all up so I'd rather pay more and hopefully have better reliability.

edit: although I admit, I haven't tried sterlingtek's... i'm getting 2 additional canon BP511a's for my 5D bringing my total to 4 which will be enough for me I think :)

G'night all.....

Night!!! :)

When I first got my 300D I bought another aftermarket battery at the same time and it's still going strong.

I would prefer to buy genuine but at the moment I really can't afford it and I only have 3 batters between my two bodies at the moment which isn't anywhere near enough.

Oooh, that reminds me, I got a job :D Just casual at the moment, but hopefully enough hours to pay the bills and fund my obsess...hobby.

yeah my friends have had no issues either :( must just be me :(

but I read that link you posted, and he commented that there's no fitment problems in newer batches which is good to hear.

perhaps I should not buy the batteries and buy a couple of aftermarkets :)

yeah... do that :D that'll save me $160! :)

count me in for 2 BP511 replicas if you're doing a bulk buy :)

well for those of you who dont know.. i have waited like 2 months or so for a phone line from Telstra.. cos our electrician was a toolbox and didn't know what "Lay the phone wiring to Telstra spec" meant. So yea Telstra and Transfield had flower fight with one another and we basically had to ram the phone in their orifices and er.. yea. so i get the phone connected and then the next thing i know.. no adsl... no fun.

mmm.. get to take wedding photos with my new 30d that im getting... (thanks wakks :D). I really should look at getting some lenses for it too. I dunno if I can afford the Canon EF 1200mm F5.6 L USM @ 70k but you know.. would be nice tee hee..

Years ago - before kids that is, we (trac &I) used to play three nights of mixed indoor netball a week. I used to play GA for two and C for the other. C was like playing court sprints, but kept you very fit. I remember I had a few years off and then filled in for a team of work friends at C, I nearly died. I wouldn't even consider it these days I'm so unfit.

I remember when I used to train 6 days a week (Inline Hockey) and play one day a week... then I got taken out sideways and ruptured my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) as some of you heard when we were talking about Shay's shoulder.

Upon injury it took me all of 6 months to put on 20KG to arrive at my sumo wrestler physic of a body you see now :P

Spam, the flag reminds me of the cover of Expatriate's new album. :) I like what you have done - I like a good amount of contrast. Don't know about having such a deep blue for the background though. It could be the fact that I've seen that album cover a few times mind you. ;) What settings did you use, and include focal length if you'd please. :)

Late afternoon after walking across the story bridge. The sky is pretty much untouched from what came out of the camera. No CPL either.

What settings did you use, and include focal length if you'd please. :)

This is off the EXIF page on flickr:
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1250) Aperture: f/5 Focal Length: 200 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: 1/3 EV

using my dads 70-200 f4L, i did a bit of work to bring the red in the flag out a bit more and then added some contrast with an unsharp mask thing i do. (2 passes with it, the second being different from your normal sharpening settings)

Spam, I like the amount of contrast on the flag, but find the amount on the pole a little harsh... you can fix it with masks easily. But I generally do like quite a bit of contrast in photos. You need at least a little bit, otherwise most of them seem flat.

The pole was a tricky one to work with because the contrast was pretty much there when it came out of the camera. Anyways, will have to keep experimenting with photoshop.

On a different note, we will have to get a get together organised soon. With all the new stuff that everyones getting recently. :)

To take long(er) exposures during the day withough blowing out the image (usually the sky)

They are good for helping to get that smooth look to running water like on the ocean or a stream etc

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. Feeling a bit crappy today so haven't really been around.

Are we going to set a date for our next outing? Seems like a few people are keen!

i'm going to order it tomorrow from the buff miester... hopefully he goes by previous trust and ships it tomorrow too and I get it overnight :D that'd be fantabulous! :) I've been researching split focus screens... think I'm going to settle on Haoda (http://haodascreen.com/Canon5D.aspx) to supply me a split with microprism collar.

They dont' make a Katz for the 5D :(

I am looking forward to the next get together, I feel left out without any new gear :( hehe, oh well.

Speaking of new gear, has your 1d come yet Nick ?

That'll teach you for having brothers and sisters:p You missed a good meeting, although some guy was going on about vector images (which I thought at best, looked uninteresting) and lost me half way through.

What was MOST interesting KL was that Dad was looking at studio flash equipment (which was on display) to buy for "his" studio:D:D
